Opera in the Heights (OH!) has announced its 2015-2016 20th anniversary season, presenting a smorgasbord of delectable operas that should appeal to a wide range of patrons. The season kicks off with Leoncavallo's, I Pagliacci. Next is a Menotti 1940s double-bill, The Medium and The Telephone. Following is Rossini's La Cenerentola, the perfect Cinderella opera. The season will end where opera began, with Gluck's 1762 composition, Orfeo ed Euridice, which is an OH! world premiere. All will be conducted by Maestro Eiki Isomura.

It is a post-modern mash-up of Universal horror films, The Pied Piper of Hamelin, the operas of Gilbert and Sullivan, the writings of Sigmund Freud, and numerous other elements. On the bill with him will be selections from Three Way, by David Cote (libretto) and Robert Paterson (music), which has been described as “a kind of NC-17 Il trittico”, and two works with lyrics by UTC#61's Edward Einhorn: The Velvet Oratorio (music by Henry Akona) and Money Lab (music by Avner Finberg).

El Pasado is the second mariachi opera from the creative team of José “Pepe” Martínez and Leonard Foglia, who collaborated to create the international hit Cruzar la Cara de la Luna/To Cross the Face of the Moon, with Mariachi Vargas, which HGO premiered in 2010 and reprised in 2013. Nine years before IL TROVATORE took the prize for Verdi's most outlandish story line--with gypsies, stolen babies and mistaken identities--there was ERNANI, with a different kind of complicated plot to make your head spin. The Met's current revival of its 1983 production of the opera stars a formidable quartet: soprano Angela Meade, tenor Franceso Meli, bass-baritone Dmitry Belosselskiy and, last but certainly not least, tenor/baritone Placido Domingo.
