Opera Colorado's STEAL A PENCIL FOR ME Features Holocaust Love Story by BWW News Desk
- November 16, 2016 Opera Colorado has announced their 2017 - 2018 season, which continues to enrich and diversify the scope of its programming with their second world premiere in two years, while also staging enduring works from the classic repertoire. The three-production season will feature the world premiere of Steal a Pencil for Me, a WWII romance based on a true story, with music by Gerald Cohen and libretto by Deborah Brevoort; Giacomo Puccini's beloved classic La Boheme; and Giuseppe Verdi's masterful comic opera Falstaff. In 2017 - 2018 Opera Colorado will also continue to explore performing in diverse venues throughout the community, staging Steal a Pencil for Me at the Elaine Wolf Theatre at the Mizel Arts and Culture Center, MACC at the JCC.

Anna Netrebko to Star in Puccini's MANON LESCAUT at the Met, Tonight by BWW News Desk
- November 14, 2016 Anna Netrebko will add a new role to her wide-ranging Met repertory tonight through December 3 when she sings her first company performances of the seductive, tragic heroine of Puccini's Manon Lescaut.Marcelo Álvarez makes his role debut as Manon's obsessed lover des Grieux, with Christopher Maltman stars as Manon's brother Lescaut and Brindley Sherratt as Geronte, Manon's older lover. The November 21, December 7, and December 10 performances will star Kristine Opolais as Manon, reprising a role she first sang with the company in last season's premiere of Sir Richard Eyre's staging. Marco Armiliato will conduct all performances of Manon Lescaut at the Met this season.

- November 08, 2016 The Bronx Opera will celebrate its 50th season in 2017 with two different takes on the story of William Shakespeare's lovable rogue knight, Sir John Falstaff: the rarely-performed Sir John in Love, by English composer Ralph Vaughan Williams (January 14, 15, 21, 22); and Verdi's Falstaff, the final, miraculous opera by the Italian master (April 29, 20, May 6, 7). Each production will be performed both in the Bronx, at Lehman College's Lovinger Theatre, and in Manhattan, at Hunter College's Kaye Playhouse. This will be BxO's third presentation of Sir John in Love (they gave the U.S. Premiere in 1978) and their first of Falstaff, and both operas will be performed in English.

- November 07, 2016 Patricia Racette will add a new role to her Met repertory as the title character in all performances of Strauss's Salome this season, replacing the originally announced Catherine Naglestad. Ms. Naglestad was forced to withdraw from the performances, which were to be her Met debut, for medical reasons that will prevent her traveling to America as scheduled.
