- August 18, 2012 Exit 12 Dance Company, a contemporary dance company founded by United States Marine Corps Sergeant Roman Baca upon his return from Iraq, will be honored at the Downtown Dance Festival Performance today, August 18, 2012 at 8pm at Dance New Amsterdam. The troupe will dedicate their performances in Battery Dance Company's (BDC) week-long festival in downtown New York City to Lieutenant Colonel Mark Weber, an inspiring Minnesota National Guard Army officer with stage IV cancer.

- August 15, 2012 Ballet Hispanico, recognized as the preeminent Latino dance institution in the United States, announces a Bessie Award Nomination for company member Jessica Alejandra Wyatt. Ms. Wyatt was nominated for a Bessie Award for Outstanding Performer (of a work that stretches the boundaries of a traditional or culturally specific form) for her performance in Asuka by Eduardo Vilaro, performed by Ballet Hispanico at the Apollo Theater.

- August 15, 2012 New York-based choreographer and performer, Monica Bill Barnes has created 12 evening-length dance works, numerous site-specific events, and several cabaret numbers for her company. Monica Bill Barnes & Company is made up of powerful performers with the mission to celebrate individuality, humor, and the innate theatricality of everyday life. Beginning with an open rehearsal on Tuesday, September 11, Barnes will create a new work to be showcased at the Emory Dance Company Fall concert. Faculty member Anna Leo will rehearse and direct the work until performance in November.

Michelle Dorrance Receives First Princess Grace Award for Tap Choreography by Kelsey Denette
- August 10, 2012 The Princess Grace Foundation-USA has announced the 2012 Princess Grace Awards, including the first such award for tap choreography in its 30-year history to tap artist Michelle Dorrance. Dorrance's award will support the creation of a new work for Chicago Human Rhythm Project (CHRP)'s ensemble BAM!, which will premiere as part of CHRP's Windy City Rhythms program, its annual celebration of National Tap Dance Day, in May 2013.
