DNA Presents Sunhwa Chung/Ko-Ryo Dance Theater, 10/17-20

Showcasing its dedication to presenting and supporting the work of international artists, Dance New Amsterdam (DNA) invites Sunhwa Chung/Ko-Ryo Dance Theater to join the DNA PRESENTS family, October 17-20. Arirang - We Go Beyond the Crossroad, choreographed and directed by Sunhwa Chung, blends traditional Korean dance with contemporary Western forms. The program features live music, composed and performed by Korean Traditional Drummer Vonggu Pak, with accompaniment by violinist Sarang West. The 90-minute performances begin at 7:30 p.m. each night with an additional matinee on October 20 at 3:00 p.m.
Joffrey Ballet Launches Season with HUMAN LANDSCAPES, 10/17-28

The Joffrey Ballet's 2012-2013 season launches this fall with a mixed repertory program titled "Human Landscapes," featuring three choreographers exploring principles of the human spirit through dance. The Joffrey brings James Kudelka's critically acclaimed Pretty BALLET back to the stage along with Ji?i Kylian's rarely seen work Forgotten Land. A highlight of the season is the ground-breaking anti-war ballet The Green Table, choreographed by Kurt Jooss in the aftermath of World War I. The "Human Landscapes" program is presented in 10 performances only at the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University, 50 E. Congress Parkway, October 17 - 28, 2012.

Following sold-out performances in June, Ballets with a Twist, the hottest of the next generation of ballet companies, has announced a new performance date for its intoxicating evening of dance, Cocktail Hour. On Thursday, September 20th at 8 pm, Ballets with a Twist will dance at XL Cabaret to benefit the True Colors Fund, an organization co-founded by music, style and cultural icon Cyndi Lauper in support of equality for all and to bring an end to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender youth homelessness. The nightclub has donated its sleek cabaret space for the event, and Lauper will be on hand for an intimate performance of “True Colors.'

Zaccho Dance Theatre Presents SAILING AWAY, 9/13-16

It is sometimes referred to as the "San Francisco Exodus of 1858" a little-known part of the City's history in which hundreds of African Americans fled discrimination and the threat of slavery for the safety of a Canadian exile. Choreographer Joanna Haigood and her Zaccho Dance Theatre (www.zaccho.org) are marking the iconic event with free public performances of her powerful work Sailing Away. Performances will be given in three continuous cycles, September 13, 14, 15, and 16 at 12noon, 1:30pm and 3pm daily starting at Market Street and Powell.

Ballet Next, the independent ballet company founded by acclaimed dancers Michele Wiles and Charles Askegard, will present its first week-long season at The Joyce Theater from October 23-28, 2012. Since debuting for a one-night only, sold out performance at The Joyce in 2011, Ballet Next has forged an exciting creative laboratory, bringing together world-class choreographers, dancers and musicians to develop contemporary work with the highest level of classical technique as its foundation. The highly-anticipated season includes two programs with five world premieres from Mauro Bigonzetti, Brian Reeder, Margo Sappington, Alison Cooke Beatty, and Charles Askegard, and features dancers from New York City Ballet, Stuttgart Ballet, Houston Ballet, and Pacific Northwest Ballet, as well as young talents who comprise the Ballet Next group of Soloists. The Ballet Next Ensemble will accompany the dancers with live music led by noted Israeli cellist Elad Kabilio.

Northern Ballet's Madame Butterfly dances into the Lyceum Theatre from 18 - 22 September 2012. Madame Butterfly is directed and choreographed by the Company's Artistic Director, David Nixon OBE, who originally created the piece on his wife, Yoko Ichino, the internationally renowned ballerina, who is now Ballet Mistress and Academy Associate Director at Northern Ballet. The Northern Ballet version of the production premiered at Leeds Grand Theatre in 2002.

On Wednesday, September 5 at 7:30pm at NYU's Skirball Center for the Performing Arts (566 LaGuardia Place), dance icon Mikhail Baryshnikov will be honored at the NYC Dance Alliance Foundation's "Bright Lights Shining Stars" Gala where he will receive their prestigious Ambassador for the Arts Award which will be presented to him by longtime friend and colleague Liza Minnelli. Last year's Ambassador for the Arts Award recipient, celebrated American singer, songwriter, musician and four-time Grammy-winner Roberta Flack, will also be present on 9/5. Also set to appear that evening will be ABT star Julie Kent, Oscar-nominee and celebrated dancer Leslie Browne and Tony Award-winning choreographers Jerry Mitchell and Andy Blankenbuehler.

Ms. Wyatt was nominated for a Bessie Award for Outstanding Performer (of a work that stretches the boundaries of a traditional or culturally specific form) for her performance in Asuka by Eduardo Vilaro, performed by Ballet Hispanico at the Apollo Theater.
