Schimmel Center to Host 10th Anniversary Season of TAKE DANCE, Featuring World Premiere

Schimmel Center at Pace University presents TAKE Dance, the New York City-based contemporary dance troupe led by Artistic Director and Founder, Takehiro Ueyama, noted former Paul Taylor Dance Company company member. For the company's 10th anniversary season, TAKE Dance will be performing the World Premiere of the evening-length work, There and Here, with live music performed by award-winning Japanese musician, composer, and producer, Kato Hideki, who will compose the music in real time at each performance. Performances take place March 26 - 28 at Schimmel Center at Pace University (3 Spruce Street).

New York Theatre Ballet (NYTB) presents the annual Ballet School NY Summer Camp from July 6-17, 2015 for children ages 8-12. A Pre-Ballet Summer Session for children ages 3-7 will be held from July 6-24, 2015. The camp from July 6-17 will include ballet, theater dance, tap, field trips, original choreography by the students, and a performance on the final day.
Joffrey Ballet Showcases Choreographers of Color in WINNING WORKS Program Today

CHICAGO - The Joffrey Academy of Dance, Official School of The Joffrey Ballet, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago presents four World Premieres in the fifth annual "Winning Works" program, the culmination of the 2015 Choreographers of Color Awards. Three of the new works come from this year's Award winners Jennifer Archibald, Abdul Latif and Stephanie Martinez. The fourth piece is a new workby Joffrey Academy Artistic Director Alexei Kremnev called Windy Sand with original music by Karen LeFrak. All four works are performed by dancers from the Joffrey Studio Company and the Joffrey Academy Trainee Program. The Joffrey Academy of Dance's "Winning Works" program is presented at a new venue in 2015, the Edlis Neeson Theater at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, 220 E. Chicago Avenue, over three performances: today, March 7 at 3 pm and 7:30 pm and Sunday, March 8 at 3 pm.

Gelsey Kirkland Ballet will present an exciting Marius Petipa double bill, Harlequinade and Cavalry Halt on Friday, March 27 and Saturday, March 28. This 29 member studio company—which includes dancers from Brazil, Japan, Israel and Russia—is under the artistic direction of renowned former ABT principal dancer Gelsey Kirkland and Michael Chernov. Performances will take place at the Peter Jay Sharp Theatre at Symphony Space (2537 Broadway on the southwest corner of 95th Street and Broadway).

Dance Theatre of Harlem and Alvin Ailey dance star Mel A.Tomlinson joins Dancers Over 40 tribute of Chicago Ballet superstar Ruth Page in the tribute, 'A World Apart' at St. Luke's Theatre, 308 West 46th St., NYC at 7PM. A dance innovator who refused to be pigeon-holed into just one type of dance, Ruth was the first American to dance with Diaghilev'€s Ballets Russes in 1925, first American to dance with Anna Pavlova's company, first to commission George Balanchine to choreograph and the first to present Rudolf Nurevev in America. Prokofiev, Gershwin and Ravel played for her, Isamu Noguchi designed her costumes and she commissioned Aaron Coplandâ€s first ballet score. She dedicated her life to making dance and ballet accessible to everyone. Ruth's work on Broadway includes her professional stage debut in Jerome Kern and Victor Herbertâ€s Miss 1917, a leading role in Irving Berlin's Music Box Revue 1923-24 edition, and choreographing 1947's Music in My Heart. A double-bill of her famous opera ballets Revenge and The Merry Widow had a six-day a sell-out run at the Broadway Theater in 1955.
