The National Ballet of Canada is introducing two arts and culture specific workshops for GTA high school students in the Ministry of Education's Specialist High Skills Major programme. For the first time, the National Ballet will conduct practicums for students that will provide insight into the skills required to work at a major arts company.

On March 30, 2017, 80 GTA students in grades 11 and 12 will attend one of two hands-on workshops at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts. Students will choose between Stage Management led by Stage Manager Jeff Morris or Costumes led by Wardrobe Supervisor Marjory Fielding. The workshops will include instruction from a professional makeup artist provided by MAC Cosmetics. The students will given a certificate upon completion.

Following the workshops, students will attend Genus & Tarantella & Self and Soul & The Concert at 2:00 pm. Students will also be given a backstage tour of the Four Seasons Centre.

Participating in the workshops are students from six high schools across five school boards: St. Paul Catholic Secondary School, R.H. King Academy, Thornlea Secondary School, Bishop Marrocco/Thomas Merton Catholic Secondary School and Regional Arts Centre, Cawthra Park Secondary School and The Woodlands Secondary School.
