Ecce Ensemble Ends Season with KINETICS, 5/6

Cambridge, MA (FOR RELEASE 4.11.16) — As the 2015-16 contemporary music ensemble-in-residence at Cambridge's Le Laboratoire, the Ecce Ensemble completes its season with a diverse program of new chamber works by six emerging compositional voices. Inspired by Le Lab's current Random International installation, 150 Milliseconds, the concert's repertoire evokes a panoply of physical and psychological states both human and seemingly otherworldly. Performed by seven-member Ecce Ensemble and special guest vocalist Amanda DeBoer Bartlett, the program includes the world premiere of Already Root by Maxwell Dulaney, New England premieres by Erin Gee, Hillary Zipper, and Anna-Louise Walton, as well as works by Ecce's executive director John Aylward, and the winner of Ecce's 2016 International Call for Scores, Nuno Costa. Orange County, Calif.—April 7, 2016—Swashbuckling musical adventures and exciting swordfights explode on screen when acclaimed organist Dennis James returns to Pacific Symphony to recreate the soundtrack to the 1920 silent-film masterpiece, “The Mark of Zorro.” Starring the legendary Douglas Fairbanks in the double role of Don Diego Vega/Señor Zorro, the Symphony's organ concert sets imaginations ablaze and sensations reverberating when the mighty “King of Instruments” thunders forth for this special movie matinee. In the skilled hands of James, indescribable sounds emanate from the 4,322 pipes of the commanding William J. Gillespie Concert Organ to provide the film's original score, as the classic movie plays overhead. Fairbanks biographer Jeffrey Vance writes, “The Mark of Zorro is a landmark, not only in the career of Douglas Fairbanks, but also in the development of the action adventure film.”
Van Cliburn Competition Gold Medalist Performs in Free Concert with YASO

Van Cliburn Competition Gold Medalist Stanislav Iodenitch, a piano virtuoso hailed for playing with "laserlike clarity" (The Boston Globe), performs Tchaikovsky's iconic Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Young Artists Symphony Orchestra, led by Artistic Director Alexander Treger, in a free concert capping the orchestra's highly successful inaugural season on Sunday, May 1, 2016, 6 pm, at UCLA's Royce Hall.  The all-Russian program also includes Tchaikovsky's enthralling Suite from Swan Lake and Lyadov's Kikimora, a tone poem about a malicious spirit from Russian folklore.  Additionally, to celebrate the conclusion of its first season, YASO is hosting a separate ticketed post-concert soiree, featuring a buffet dinner and jazz performances by Nigel Armstrong, former concertmaster under Treger, Julian Zheng, YASO principal horn, and other YASO artists.

The concert continues with one of Mendelssohn's most elegant and lyrical concertos played by Gold Medalist of the 2014 Ninth Quadrennial International Violin Competition of the Indianapolis, Jinjoo Cho. The concert concludes with Holst's Planets, performed in its entirety complete with women's chorus. As a special feature, out-of-this-world NASA video footage of the planets will be projected on the screen over the orchestra.

Oakland Symphony Youth Orchestra Announces Full Schedule for Concert Season

Oakland, CA, April 6, 2016—The Oakland Symphony and Music Director Michael Morgan have announced the 2016-2017 season, which will feature a signature mix of adventurous and wide-ranging music including a new violin concerto, a monumental choral work, a “lost” Romantic symphony, a trio as guest soloists, music from the time of the Black Panthers, an ebullient American musical theater gem and more. The six-concert season runs October 14, 2016, through May 19, 2017, at the Paramount Theatre with pre-concert talks, lobby entertainment and drinks beginning one hour before each performance. In addition, the organization has announced details of the Oakland Symphony Youth Orchestra's three-concert 2016-2017 season.
