QUESTIONING PROTOCOL Named 2014 USA Best Book in Health
by BWW News Desk - November 19, 2014
'Questioning Protocol,' the debut book by Fairfield author Randi Redmond Oster, won the prestigious award in the health general category. http://www.usabooknews.com/2014awardannouncement.html. 'Questioning Protocol' was published by WellPathPress, Fairfield, Conn. The book was chosen from a pool of hundreds of contenders that included works published by Simon & Schuster, Penguin, John Wiley & Sons, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, Kensington Books, Harlequin, McGraw-Hill, Llewellyn, and many independent publishing houses. 'I am truly humbled by this honor, and excited that I have a chance to help others who may be going through what I did,' said Oster. 'You can only win at a game if you know the rules. I hope my tips, tools and techniques empower others to navigate the healthcare system with increased confidence.' 'Questioning Protocol' is the account of Oster's grapple with the health care system after her son Gary was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease, a chronic digestive disorder. 'Gary required a battery of tests and underwent multiple operations. I wrote about all of it: the heart-warming, the heart-wrenching, the scary and the funny, in the hopes that readers would make use of the information to cope with their own personal crises. 'Questioning Protocol' empowers readers to speak up, question and find the right solutions for them,' Oster said. The 2014 USA Best Book Award is one of several awards Oster has won for her book. The book also is the 2014 Best Beach Read in health and an excerpt won the American Medical Writers Association's Eric Martin Award. 'I wrote the book to help others understand today's healthcare system. I now know my family was not alone in needing to deal with a healthcare crisis: there are some 141 million Americans with chronic diseases, and 36 million people per year facing hospitalization,' Oster said. The book offers tools and techniques for creating a high-performing healthcare team focused on what's best for the patient. Oster holds a degree in electrical engineering from Union College and an MBA from Boston University. She spent the first 18 years of her career in GE. She received a Black Belt in Six Sigma Quality certification and numerous leadership awards. She is a current Malcolm Baldrige Examiner specializing in the performance of healthcare-related organizations. She is a leading speaker on healthcare reform, shared decision making and patient engagement. Her work has appeared in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) as well as other leading industry publications, and she has won the prestigious Eric W. Martin Award for writing from the American Medical Writers Association. 'Questioning Protocol' is available on Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble.com. Khanh Ha Releases 2nd Novel, THE DEMON WHO PEDDLED LONGING
by BWW News Desk - November 19, 2014
Reviews: 'The Demon Who Peddled Longing takes you on the quest of an insular boy - a quest to avenge his cousin's murder and to win the heart of a fickle woman. His deliverance lies not in the consummation of these goals but in the dignity with which he pursues them. As poetic as Faulkner, as stark as Cormac McCarthy, The Demon Who Peddled Longing is an absorbing read.' -James Hanna, The Sand Hill Review 'Compelling and beautifully written ... a richly accomplished story set in a land still wounded by war.' -Stephen Evans, author of The Marriage of True Minds 'An unnamed protagonist journeys through a Faulknerian dreamscape where redemption arises out of violence and beauty blossoms from the mire of loss. A rare achievement through a mesmerizing rhythm of language. That this novel is an artistic triumph is an understatement.' -John M. Gist, Red Savina Review About The Author Khanh Ha is the author of Flesh (2012, Black Heron Press). He is a three-time Pushcart nominee and the recipient of Greensboro Review's 2014 Robert Watson Literary Prize in Fiction.
Singer Wendy Bradshaw to Release Children's Treasure Hunting Book and Soundtrack
by BWW News Desk - November 19, 2014
Utah-based singer and composer Wendy Bradshaw will publish a children's book and accompanying music soundtrack that was inspired by her very personal journey of healing from Cancer and subsequent personal growth. The book and the music will contain contributions from popular author Forrest Fenn who wrote The Thrill Of The Chase and buried a treasure worth $1 million for anyone to find who is clever enough to analyze his clues. Wendy's just released theme song, the Magic Forrest Treasure, contains words and clues from Fenn's famous treasure poem. In an interview from her Salt Lake City home Bradshaw explained, 'In order to heal, I searched for and found the truth of my own heart by reprogramming my subconscious belief system and facing my own demons. American Indian spiritual beliefs, Dr. Bruce Lipton's books on quantum mechanics, and music, especially healing music all assisted me with that reprogramming.' 'I want people to know that they can heal themselves, and teach others to do the same.' Bradshaw went on to explain that the ideas held within these philosophies has also been the guiding principles of most of her creative ventures as a composer and performer. Bradshaw's personal healing led to her unique style, a 'fused' genre of music, that she firmly believes assists in healing the body, as well as the earth. According to Bradshaw, 'Magic Forrest Treasure and soundtrack,' is a story built around an American Indian girl hero and is about the excitement and adventure of treasure hunting, solving clues, searching, danger, mystery and why it is such an exhilarating and defining journey for those that seek the treasure of their own hearts.' said the author. Bradshaw also examines, through a combination of the fusing of American Indian voices, wisdom stories and her own musical composition, the vital aspiration we all have to uncover the most valuable ideals in the universe - treasures far greater than gold - that come to all who live in harmony with Mother Earth and Father Sky. The children's book and soundtrack to 'Magic Forrest Treasure,' is being published by ThunderSky Media under the Vippi Books label. In conclusion, Bradshaw sums up her thoughts on life, 'When you hit rock bottom, remember, bedrock is where you find the gold!'
