Bookworks Presents Shelf Awareness for Readers: An Appreciation of Bats
by BWW News Desk - November 09, 2015
October is, no surprise, official Bat Appreciation Month. There are more than 1,300 species of bats worldwide; they range from cute to strange to scary; they aid farming by eating insects, thus reducing the need for pesticides; they pollinate plants; and, according to Merlin Tuttle, founder ofBat Conservation International, they are gentle, cuddly creatures with off-the-charts intelligence and sophistication. Tuttle has just written The Secret Lives of Bats: My Adventures with the World's Most Misunderstood Mammals (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, $26), which begins with his first bat cave exploration as a teenager, when dozens of gray bats landed on him, seeking places to hide. Many people would have run screaming from the cave, but Tuttle was captivated, as readers of this book will be as he explains his fascination.

University Press of Kentucky Releases VENERABLE TREES
by BWW News Desk - November 09, 2015
In 2013, a housing development in Lexington, Kentucky, threatened the life of a bur oak that is at least three hundred years old. The resulting outcry from the citizens of Fayette County led the development company to implement a conservation plan to save this venerable tree. Whether it is out of a respect for their history or a reverence for their majesty, residents of the Bluegrass care about their ancient trees. Kentucky's landscape is dotted by trees that predate the settlement of the American colonies. Living examples of species such as bur oak, Shumard oak, kingnut, and blue ash, among others, took root in the Bluegrass and Nashville Basin regions before Columbus ever crossed the Atlantic.

Each year when Veterans Day approaches, I think again of my father, who landed at Utah Beach two months after D-Day with the 243rd Field Artillery Battalion and died in 1971, taking his memories with him. Romance Author Jaye Frances Releases Her New Erotica Suspense Series 'World Without Love'
by BWW News Desk - November 07, 2015
Jaye Frances has announced the release of "Betrayed," the first book in the new "World Without Love" series. In a striking departure from her previous work, the author injects her signature intellectual appeal to the emerging and popular erotica suspense genre that combines unexpected plot twists with adult sexual situations. When asked where the idea for the series came from, Jaye Frances said, "In many parts of the world, the buying and selling of sex is an acceptable practice - a regular part of established commerce. This concept became the basis of a story about a young American woman struggling to escape her life of virtual captivity, and in the process, discovers her own strength and power." "Betrayed" is set in contemporary times and centers around the main character, Jewel - a twenty-one-year-old girl who marries an ex-Navy officer seven years her senior. After saying goodbye to friends and family in California, the couple begins traveling the world in search of new adventures. Two years later, Jewel has everything going for her - a handsome husband, a promising future, and lots of time to explore an island paradise she now calls home. But when a group of strangers accompanies her husband home for a friendly game of poker, her life becomes a nightmare of deceit and betrayal. "With true-to-life characters, terrific dialogue, and a realistic crafting of setting, Jaye Frances confirms her reputation as a master storyteller, weaving an intense, sensual, and often heart-wrenching tale that spans two continents with intrigue, money, and power. A riveting mix of sex, deception, and pulse-racing plot twists . . . Betrayed is an erotic roller-coaster of suspense." - NUSA SUN The "World Without Love" series continues with a December 2015 release of book two, "Reunion," followed by the third installment, "Redemption," in March 2016. Jaye Frances' other books include "The Beach," a sci-fi supernatural tale about the possibilities-and horror-of wishful thinking; "The Kure," a paranormal-occult romance novel; "The Possibilities of Amy," a coming-of-age story about first love, and "Love Travels Forever," a collection of poignant short stories. Jaye readily admits her life's journey has been the result of an open mind and curiosity about all things irreverent, and she invites visitors to her website with the following caveat: "Be forewarned, my life has not followed the traditional path of homemaker, wife, and mother." "Betrayed" is available from Amazon in both paperback and ebook format. For more information about Jaye Frances or "Betrayed," visit her website at www.jayefrances.com

While PRETTY GIRLS does take place in and around Atlanta, the book's main characters are not the individual's paid to investigate crimes, but instead are people impacted by crimes who take it upon themselves to get to the bottom of a deeply-personal mystery.
