Author Ken Brown regards cooking as chemistry - experimenting, compiling and blending different ingredients to create a palatable and scrumptious taste - as an art and an extension of his artistic expression and endeavours. Many of his friends encouraged him to write a cookbook. It was only when he cooked at a promotional party for the reggae band Toots and the Maytals in Germany that he seriously considered writing a cookbook.

In "KB's Jamaican and Caribbean Recipes Vol 1" (published by Xlibris UK), Brown reveals recipes that are full of delicious, spicy and nutritious food and drinks, giving an insight into Jamaican and Caribbean meals. The recipes are healthy, economical and easy to prepare. A distinctive part of Jamaican and Caribbean cooking is using many different spices, herbs and rum for seasoning to enhance taste and flavour. They are also used for marinading, tendering and preserving food. Brown provides different varieties of exotic fruits and vegetables for making drinks, salads and cakes.

Although there are many Jamaican and Caribbean cookbooks, this particular cookbook is compiled and written with clarity for everyone to understand and use. There are a variety of recipes for vegetarians, vegans, meat and fish lovers, which are economical to prepare and cook for large families on a small budget. Also included are health tips, such as how eating certain vegetables and fruits can prevent certain illnesses.

With its easy-to-follow recipes, "KB's Jamaican and Caribbean Recipes Vol 1" is also beautifully laid out, containing easy-to-follow recipes with pictures of exotic fruits and scrumptious looking meals. This recipe book shows readers how they can buy and prepare fresh, healthy and delicious yet inexpensive meals.
