Gryphon House Releases Creative Investigations in Early Art

LEWISVILLE, N.C., July 19, 2018 /PRNewswire/  Gryphon House, Inc. announces Creative Investigations in Early Art, a resource book featuring STEM-themed explorations of art, music and drama to boost young learners' creativity, critical-thinking, communication and problem-solving skills.

"As STEM grows in popularity, integrating the arts into those experiences provides an integral link for children's learning," said Angela Eckhoff, PhD. "Binding innovation and creativity to analytical thinking, STEAM learning teaches children problem-solving approaches that help prepare them for kindergarten and for future careers requiring them to question, imagine, analyze, and create."

STEAM-based learning helps children master skills that will help them prepare for future careers. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported nearly 8.6 million STEM jobs in 2015, accounting for more than half of employment in five industries. Of those jobs, nearly one million did not exist in 2009. Arts-based STEM jobs (or "STEAM jobs") such as architecture show considerable promise, with a projected growth of 8 percent between 2014 and 2024.

Dr. Eckhoff provides early childhood educators with pedagogical practices, arts-content knowledge and lesson ideas to integrate art into STEM-learning in ways beyond painting and drawing. With directions and lesson-plan guidance that focus on creative and inquiry-based experiences, this book features developmentally appropriate activities and teacher resources that will prepare children for success both now and later in life. Ideal for educators and caregivers of children ages 4-6, this book builds on topics featured in the Creative Investigations series.

Creative Investigations in Early Art will be widely available November 1, 2018, and is available for preorder now. To request a free excerpt or e-galley copy, contact ashleigh@ghbooks.com.

ISBN 978-0-87659-806-1; 96 pp.; PB and e-book; $18.95.
