Since the show opened on January 9, it's been the hottest ticket in town with 19 of 20 performances sold out. Now, after a brief rest and with the support of Interfaith's I M Foundation, the company is set to resume performances this Friday, February 28 for another two weeks.
Brooklyn Museum Launches 'Off the Wall' with Wangechi Mutu's FANTASTIC JOURNEY Today

Today, February 20, the Brooklyn Museum will launch Off the Wall, a Thursday evening series featuring site-specific performances inspired by exhibitions on view. The first Off the Wall will explore Wangechi Mutu's futuristc vision through an original performance by musician and performer Dav'; art-making with artist Saya Woolfalk; an Octavia Butler-inspired reading with Kiini Ibura Salaam; and a curator-led tour with Saisha Grayson of the exhibition Wangechi Mutu: A Fantastic Journey, on view until March 9.

Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts at Brooklyn College (BCBC) commemorates Earth Day with its annual National Grid Earth Day Celebration on Sunday, April 6, 2014 at 3pm. This interactive family event will take place on the plaza outside Brooklyn College's Walt Whitman Theatre immediately following the 2pm presentation of Sid the Science Kid-Live!, a new family musical based on the popular PBS KIDS television series. Brooklyn Center's Seventh Annual National Grid Earth Day Celebration is free and open to the public. Tickets to Sid the Science Kid-Live! are $10 and may be purchased by phone at 718-951-4500 (Tues-Sat, 1pm-6pm) or online at BrooklynCenterOnline.org. Both the performance and the Earth Day Celebration are recommended for ages three and up. The event is sponsored by National Grid, with additional support from TD Bank.

Butoh meets Film Noir when dancer/choreographer Vangeline presents her Vangeline Theater in the premiere of '5th', a new butoh sci-fi fantasy of 5 dances about the 5th: 5th dimension, 5th element, 5th position, 5th amendment, and 5th of Beethoven. Each dance also represents one of the five elements in Japanese philosophy: Earth, Water, Wind, Fire and Void. Joining the Company for this special season are guests Shoshana Green, San Francisco-based Butoh artist, ballet dancer Sakie Hachiya of New York, and Ysanne Spevack, English composer/performer and member of The Smashing Pumpkins. Three performances, February 7-9 at 8 PM at Brooklyn's Triskelion Arts, 118 North 11th Street.

The Billie Holiday Theatre continues its 42nd Season Generations United on February 27 with the World Premiere of Maid's Door by Writers Guild Award winner and Emmy Award nominee Cheryl L. Davis; the show will be directed by the Theatre's Artistic Director Jackie Alexander. Previews will begin Thursday, February 27; Opening Night will be Thursday, March 6; and the show will run through Sunday, March 30. Performances are Thursday-Saturday at 8pm with matinees on Saturday at 3pm and Sunday at 4pm. In a new dynamic collaboration, Ray Anderson and Sarah Weaver pose the great question, 'What is the point of being'? in a large-ensemble piece that explores the primary, universal concern of metaphysics through metaphorical, existential, humorous, emotional, and multidimensional perspectives. Featuring a powerhouse ensemble comprised of some of the finest improvisational performers today, The Point Being aspires to move from inner awareness to inner peace, and on then to a more peaceful world. The Point Being is presented with support from the Faculty in the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (FAHSS) Research Initiatives Fund, Stony Brook University.
