Growing up in Worcester County, Linda Ronstadt music was a staple in Sonia Schonning’s home. In high school, singing along over the mic in her living room, then later performing a Ronstadt tune on Community Auditions when Dave Maynard (one her favorite BU professors) hosted, to later spending over a decade in wedding/dance bands, Ronstadt songs were in every set. The music, lyrics, and rich tones consistently resonated and felt like home. Flash forward to the COVID Pandemic when creativity kept many artists sane. Sonia spent many afternoons with neighbor, Marcia Wytrwal, talking about music and theatre while their dogs played in Marcia’s back yard. Their joint appreciation and desire to perform together led to the birth of Silver Threads. The original show encompassed Ronstadt’s hits throughout the decades, featured Sonia, Marcia, and Sara Bleything, and was produced at Cape Cod Theatre Company. After two successful runs, Silver Threads was invited to perform at Cotuit Center for the Arts, as well as the Barnstable Comedy Club, and private engagements.
In 2023, Sonia created a second iteration: Silver Threads—Get Closer to include songs from Rondstadt’s collaborations with the Eagles, Aaron Neville, and James Ingram. Mother-son duo of Lynn Ruberti-Johnson and Zack Johnson joined Sonia and Sara for the opening run at Cape Cod Theatre Company.
