BWW Review: THE LAST SCHWARTZ in New England Premiere at Gloucester Stage
by Nancy Grossman - July 12, 2016
Let's hope that THE LAST SCHWARTZ is not the last we'll see of the combined works of Deborah Zoe Laufer and Paula Plum. Following the success of the pairing of playwright and director in last summer's hilarious hit OUT OF STERNO, Gloucester Stage Company reunites the talented tandem for a pleasure ride to the dilapidated country home of the dysfunctional Schwartz family in Lake Huntington, New York. The witty, insightful New England premiere is given its due by a crackerjack cast who look like they've been performing together for months, not days.

BWW Blog: Michael Hartung - Why Do I Dress Up Like A Pirate for a Living?
by Guest Blogger: Michael Hartung - July 12, 2016
I can't even tell you how many times I have had a conversation that goes something like this: 'Why do I do this?' As an actor this can feel like a hard question to answer. I believe the arts are incredibly important in our world, especially in times when it is difficult to see past the heartbreaking events that seem to be occurring more and more frequently around the globe. But I have found that it can be challenging for me to explain the inherently intangible yet far reaching benefits of theatre and the arts.

BWW Blog: Michael Hartung - The Calm Beforrrre The Storm
by Guest Blogger: Michael Hartung - July 08, 2016
Before a word is spoken, our show starts on our sturdy pirate ship as a raging storm throws us from one side of the "boat" to the other. At this point in our process, the tumultuous weather looks a lot like a group of guys rolling around on the floor, but that's nothing a of week of rehearsal and some great lighting can't fix! From this point forward, we arrre in "go" mode until we open. Yesterday was our last real day off until opening night and it sort of feels like we arrre actually heading into a crazy storm of our own.

Actors at the Guild, many of whose familiar faces appear once again this time around, have brought many such past revues to life, giving audiences the chance to enjoy a pleasant, entertaining night out while giving the chance to become privy to different music and composers that may have otherwise gone unacknowledged.
