You mean as an audience or playing Mattie Fae, I imagine as an audience but still.

I assume that she's playing Mattie Fae. Seems kind of stupid to post a thread for her being in the audience.

What happened to Elizabeth Ashley? Good for Rondi.

I think it's a surprise. I really wanted to be there tonight, I can't believe I'm missing it. It's such an event, I hope it goes marvelous and that plenty people report on it.

Lucky! I loved the performance I saw on Friday, but I didn't care for Elizabeth Ashley's scenery-chewing.

Today's audience is infinitely better off with Rondi Reed than they would have been with Ashley's cartoony mess.

I just want to say, for the record, that I thought Liz Ashley was brilliant, and my mom, with 30+ years of theatregoing, felt the same way.

I agree with Rudy2, I thoroughly enjoyed Elizabeth Ashley, and know more southern women like her, than like Rondi Reed.

I really like Elizabeth Ashley. Then again, she was the only Mattie Fae I saw.

Ashley was wonderful as Mattie Fae. As was Reed. They both took the role in different directions but it worked well both ways. I prefer Reed (although I think it's a bit crazy that she won the Tony over Mary McCormack, the only thing I liked about BOEING-BOEING) but both were very strong.

So when is the last time, if ever, has someone performed in a play and musical on Broadway in the same day?

Let alone a 3+ hour play and a 2+ hour musical. That's over six hours.

Kudos to Reed, who by the way, especially didn't want to call out of WICKED because this evening is an Actors' Fund performance.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Well she called out of the Wicked matinee (assuming there was one).

That's pretty intense, especially doing something as mammoth as AUGUST (especially tonight of all nights) and then getting in full costume for WICKED. Good for her, that's pretty crazy.

I cannot wait to see her in AWAKE AND SING next year. With Amy Morton directing. Yes, please.

What a treat to see her today. I was amazed at how easily she was able to slip back into the role.

I was surprised at the lack of speeches/etc. after the performance.

That's awesome that she returned to the show for the final performance. I wish I could have been there to see her again, but I'm happy I saw her during previews. I'm definitely gonna miss this one. It really is an amazing play even though it didn't do too well @ the box office some weeks.

That is what the stage manager said before the performance.

Rondi was great, as was the rest of the cast.

Besides a second curtain call, and the cast taking pictures of the audience on their way out, nothing really extra for the final performance, which was a disappointment.
