Oh wow, half expected this, half didn't.
Will Hunter Parrish close the show?

"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"

Wow........Alright Then

So a lot of shows closing, but some good new ones coming in the next few months!

I just hope that Broadway does not go totally tourist (Disney and Jukebox Musicals) although....I'm sure I would still go and see them!

You learn to play the straight man, the lines become routine - never really saying what you mean - but i know the scene will change :)

So how many shows are closing in January now? This is nuts.

Call the understudy / I can't go on tonight / I'm drinking with my buddy / I'm getting good and tight / Before they raise the curtain I'll be higher than a kite / So call the understudy I can't go on tonight

I know it hasn't been doing well, but it's still a little surprising. It won how many Tony's and it only lasted what, two years?

I'm sad to see the show go, but I have to say that, after seeing the new cast, I am not surprised. Fantastic show, fantastic staging, fantastic music. However, the thing that made the show spark was an energetic young talented cast, and the replacement cast just doesn't live up to the OBC.

So, that was the Drowsy Chaperone. Oh, I love it so much. I know it's not a perfect show...but it does what a musical is supposed to do. It takes you to another world, and it gives you a little tune to carry with you in your head for when you're feeling blue. Ya know?

This trend is terrible, of course. The only possibly good side effect is that perhaps the new shows will be able to run longer, since they will have less competition.

This is sad news for those involved, but I don't know why people are surprised (January 18th is the end of Hunter Parish's contract, which many predicted would also end the run of the show from the announcement of his casting.)

FELA! will take The Eugene O'Neill.

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

This trend is worse than hit movies being made into musicals.

It's the French, I tell ya. All the French's fault!!

When will 13 announce?

I'm upset that another show has announced its closing, and I'm even more upset that the show was Spring Awakening. It's one of my absolute favorites, and I will miss it greatly. And it's closing on my birthday, which is pretty depressing. But maybe I'll buy myself a ticket to the final performance as a birthday treat.

And, let's begin the countdown until coolkid starts a thread asking for closing night tickets. 5, 4, 3, 2...

I hate to say this, but ...

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've wanted this show to close, since well, since it opened! It didn't deserve that Tony for Best Musical (or any Tony nominations at all, but that's a different story) and it didn't deserve to play for 2 years, or even 2 months!

I am not sad to see this one go.

I've never much liked SA, and I've been predicting its cancellation ever since I heard about Xanadu and [tos] closing... but I'm still really sad about this. I know so many people who love the show so much, people who can't afford to commute up to NYC and see three show closings in a month. The theatre district is turning into a ghost town...

Just as none of us here would be sad to see you go, mtf3. ^_^

I'm... growing concerned with the amount of shows that have announced closing. Ever since 'Beauty & the Beast' and 'Rent' announced they were throwing in the towel, Broadway has been doing some serious rapid changing. Those two long-termers packed up and left, and now an array of less long-running shows are all leaving frighteningly close together.

You guys did say there's tons more new shows waiting to come in, right? ;_;

Always tough to see a show announce its closing, even if it is a show you do not care for.

Wow. This was inevitable, but I'm still shocked. Broadway's really not doing so well. At least the show recouped (it did, didn't it?). I'll be sad to see it go.

Depends on what you call 'new'-- it seems like all of the 'new' musicals are closing to be replaced with revivals and straight plays. Granted, I love revivals, but it's a bit disheartening. I hope there's a few really good new musicals coming...
