Sweeney Todd. Will there be a press night for the new cast?

Saw this again last week and was absolutely blown away by Sutton Foster. Has this been re-reviewed already? Will there be a press night for the new cast? I assume good reviews for the new cast would light up the box office.

Not likely, Dame. They've already been in the show for nearly a month. With all the new shows starting up also keeps the odds lol.  But never say never!

That would be silly.. as lesser known replacements have been re reviewed.  I would think they would give them a press night like they did with Bernadette in Dolly or Lea Michelle in Funny Girl.

Personally if it is re-reviewed I would think Sutton will get raves and Aaron I can't even imagine what will be said.

I agree that Sutton will get raves.  I think Aaron will fare about as good as Josh did.  With critics finding different things they enjoyed about his performance.  Personally;  I found him much sexier and darker in the role than Josh.

Oh she will definitely get raves.  She is delicious in this.  And as far as Aaron; when I saw it this past Friday I thought he was the hottest Sweeney I have ever seen.  Really sexual and menacing.  They were both on fire.  I must say the whole evening was wonderful.

You’re wrong. Two reviews are out so far. One by jkstheatrescene and can’t remember the other one. And he got raves in both!

Critics have been very indulgent with this production and even praised Groban for his bland performance. I doubt they'll be more stern with Tveit

You’re wrong.Two reviews are outso far. One by jkstheatrescene and can’t remember the other one.And he got raves in both!"

What am I wrong about? One questionable reviewer or the one you can't remember? I have liked Aarons work in other shows but sorry to say not in this. At times I didnt even realize he was on stage as he blended in with the chorus. His voice is not suited to the role and I was someone who thought it might be interesting to hear him in this.

I fully realize it's not the kind of press review that folks were talking about above, but the blogger in question is a good friend of mine and I think most of those who read his stuff would confirm that he's both of those things.

I know it’s not good practice to review based on audios as I’m about to do but I’m perplexed why people are so critical of Aaron’s voice in the role. To my ears, while he may not be quite Josh Groban it is in the vein of a beautifully sung Sweeney and does not sound wrong for the role. Maybe Epiphany wasn’t quite as intense as some others have done but everything else to me sounds great - No Place Like London, My Friends etc are just beautiful. I prefer Aaron’s voice in the role to Michael Cerveris, Bryn Terfel and Norm Lewis - for example. And Aaron is more vocally impressive than Sutton Foster (which would not be unusual for a Sweeney/Lovett pairing but still).

N Christopher was a great actor too but I just don’t think he has Aaron’s voice. Aaron’s is so unique with a very distinctive sound, interesting vibrato and a wide range. If anything, Aaron’s speaking voice sounds more at odds with the role than singing voice.

There are no plans to do a second cast album.

It's not as easy as having the new cast sing along to the old tracks from Groban's version.

Cheaper cast albums cost $300,000. Who is going to pay for it will little chance of making your money back with most folks buying the Josh version instead?

Both Sutton and Aaron are wonderful in this .  Looking forward to some real reviews as well.
