Their revival of BABY was a slog, they announced a revival of a musical and then whoops turns out they didn't have those rights, and now this show is failing to launch (I heard a cast member departed unexpectedly?)
I also saw it tonight as well, though I didn't hate it nearly as much. It felt to me a bit in the vein of things like First Date and Emojiland (though I think both of those were better). The main issue to me is that there are 3 Greek chorus-type characters known as "Filters", but it's unclear what their purpose is. They aren't a true Greek chorus, and at first I thought they were supposed to represent the different filters people use on things like Instagram but that quickly became not the case either, and their primary motivation was to get more people to use the app, which somehow was supposed to be achieved by making a list of all the things millennials have killed?
The main story runs almost completely independently of the Filters and mostly revolves around Kristolyn Lloyd's character (who is excellent) and her day to day struggles with being a single millennial mom, with the super put together (on the surface) mom of her daughter's classmate and her sister who's an influencer that just got pregnant (mostly for the follower bump). I think Kristolyn Lloyd did as much as she could to try to flesh out her character but none of the characters get that much to work with. I think the show struggles a lot between trying to make them real human characters with unexpected depths and just making them caricatures for cheap humor. It really acts more as a slice of life piece when it comes down to it, but I wouldn't say there's anything particularly interesting or insightful about it.
The production value was slightly higher than I expected, fairly polished in terms of set with projections and props. The music was serviceable, with the same sort of modern pop musical score that's fairly ubiquitous now, and while there were a few songs that stood out from the others, I don't know if I'd really care to listen to them again. Altogether, I didn't hate it, but I was definitely expecting it to do more.
I do think she brought a lot to the role that wasn't necessarily there already, and her voice does shine particularly well in the songs. Is she excellent in the same way that the leading ladies on Broadway right now are excellent? No, but in the scale of this production I think she was able to inject a bit of nuance into her character to make it more fully realized. It's one of those things where all the other characters around her are much flashier and generally have "bigger" performances, but she managed to ground the production for me.

I’m thinking the same thing… her recent Instagram post, particularly her caption, is striking to say the least.
“So happy to be spending my day with my person, out and free from what had been dragging me down. Only stay where you are celebrated, loved, and supported. So this is where you’ll find me for the remainder of today”

Oh wow. I started following her after seeing her in The Lonely Few, and though the show got extended a couple of weeks, she didn't stay for the extension, presumably because of commitments to this show. She was definitely posting about working on it and being so excited for it as of a couple weeks ago! Rereading this caption in light of the info that she's not there... I hope she's doing ok.
This is a reminder to all posters, our rules are very clear that discussions are limited to on-stage aspects of a production only. If the conversation can't continue within those parameters we will have to lock or remove the thread.
