Casting directors Adam Caldwell and Bernard Telsey are already working on Season 2 of their hit period drama "The Gilded Age", and say so far they are adding 2 more Tony-winners to their growing cast.
Telsey:"We just added a Tony winner last night at 11 p.m. for a major role in season two. It’s like the prerequisite. [laughs]."
Caldwell:"We have another that’s already set for seven or eight episodes so that’s definitely two Tony winners. Another two-time nominated actor…but we’re still at it. It’s still a part of the recipe of what we think works because of the talent and the experience."
I have 3 friends on the show (all principal roles), so I’ll have the scoop shortly. They begin filming mid-May. Costume fittings began 2 weeks ago. Whoo-hoo!
Personally I hope S2 is better than S1. There were so many characters and so many storylines to follow, at times it felt like they were falling all over themselves.
No, they weren’t. Not even from viewers who wrote on message forums. But I think HBO is in deep with this project, so they will probably stick with all the seasons they’ve contracted at this point.

It was a ratings winner and viewers enjoyed it. I enjoyed it immensely.

Viewership trumps reviews. The series started breaking records after the first episode. Same reason why AND JUST LIKE THAT was given a Season 2. Ratings also trump the social media comments and naysayers. They have zero impact.
