I caught the recently launched national tour of Tootsie. Overall, the show is just as fun and funny as it was on Broadway. The show fares very well in the hands of a very young, but extremely talented cast. There is so much energy and excitement from the performers that was palpable to the last row of the theatre.

Special shout out to Drew Becker who is far better in the role of Michael/ Dorothy than Santino Fontana was. Payton Reilly's Sandy was absolutely hysterical and hilarious. Jared David Michael Grant as Jeff got the most laughs, and rightfully so.

Twelve musicians in the pit play the score, and it sounded great and full for a non-equity tour. Speaking of non-equity, the ONLY thing about this production that comes across non-equity is the set. This tour just launched two weeks ago, and the set already looks like it's on it's last leg. The set has been completely redesigned for the tour. Threadbare backdrops and two clunky reconfigurable units make up the entire set.

I would definitely recommend this if it's coming your way - the show itself is laugh out loud funny, and the cast is superb. Just don't go in expecting to see your dollars on stage with the set.

Thanks for your review.  I am seeing this on November 7 in Orlando.  I didn't want to put alot of money in the ticket price since "not to be a snob" it went nonequity.  The venue already owed me a credit on the fees so I chose a balcony seat.  So costs were only $44.  If it was something I had to see, maybe I would have purchased closer, but I am satisfied with where I am sitting.  Also for a first time touring show, I am seeing a Sunday matinee show, so I can still drive the two hours home while it is light outside.

Payton is a friend of mine and I'm SO glad she's doing well in this role. She is immensely talented and hysterical both onstage and off.

She’s marvelous. The whole cast was exceptional. They got a rave in the Buffalo News. It’s a very, very funny show. It was really great to hear a full house laughing so much. It swelled my heart. Those laughs were much needed for everyone watching.

Drew and Jared were sensational as Dorothy and Jeff. What a great combo. The leads in this show will have very successful careers. Check them out now so you can say you saw them at the beginning

I hope this tour treats them all well and doesn’t wear anyone out.
