I would venture to guess that this is not officially licensed, if only by the fact that it is being presented in English. I would presume that an official presentation would be translated.

What are you referring to?

Odd - the original post he was responding to is now gone.

So my original post was deleted by the mods because it contained a youtube video of the SPIC production of Wicked.  The message from the moderator said I posted a bootleg which is blatantly false since SPIC themselves are the one that uploaded their own production, which if licensed, they are free to do.  Trigger-happy moderators.

Hate to be “that guy.” But, as far as the terms of service here go, they don’t approve posting bootlegs from say, YouTube for example. The fact that you linked to a YouTube video that someone else posted is irrelevant.

It wasn't a bootleg though.  SPIC filmed their own production and posted it on their own channel....

For context, SPIC is Kolkata-based and stands for Showbiz Production Infotainment Communication. (I know, I was confused too.)

That may very well be. But, let’s say for the sake of argument, you posted a link from YouTube of a full performance of the current Broadway cast. While it may be true that you didn’t make/post the video, the mods aren’t too keen on reposting or passing round bootlegs regardless of their origin.

This case is different though, since the show itself uploaded its own bootleg, doesn’t that make it legal?

If Spongebob posted their entire “live” show on YouTube, would we not be allowed to post it?

Yes but that's 2 totally different things.  You're describing an actual bootleg, what I posted is not a bootleg.  It was their own production.

If you go to You Tube and search for "Wicked the play" it should come up.

Just because its ypur production doesnt give ypu permission to videotape...particularly not to post or give out tne vid.

MOST agreement allow an archival copy only, and require a separate agreement for anything beyond that.

(Not that we know if that has happened.)

And its been a LOOONG time since Ive heard the mods taking down links.

The production in question took place in 2013. So why is this relevant TODAY???

Since the production appears to have occurred in India, U.S. Copyright Law is irrelevant.

Is it, really? (I'll admit, I didnt even give that a second thought.) But I cant imagine it has no bearing.

No.  more of a local community theater thing.
