Earlier this week, I saw several people post on Facebook that Ann Crumb was receiving hospice care. Sadly, news has now come that she has died, age 69, of ovarian cancer.

Ann was active on Broadway in the 80s and 90s in Aspects of Love, Anna Karenina (Tony nomination), Les Mis and Chess. She opened The Goodbye Girl on the West End. In recent years, she moved back to her hometown of Media, Pennsylvania, and appeared in several Philadelphia-area theater productions.

She was also the daughter of Pulitzer Prize winning composer George Crumb.

Rest in peace, Annie.

Very sad and shocking news. I'd never seen her live, but was in love with her voice and performance on the Aspects of Love OBC and especially in the London NINE. RIP, Ms. Crumb.

I'm so sorry to hear this.

She was excellent in Aspects of Love and Johnny Guitar off-Broadway.

I am so upset to hear this. I met her about 15 years ago after she performed a lovely concert at my college. In between songs she entertained us with funny stories from her experiences in Chess and Evita. I spoke with her afterwards and she was kind enough to sign my Aspects of Love CD and seemed appreciative that I asked her to do so. Later on I saw her at the Media Theatre in Souvenir, Master Class, and Sunset Boulevard (saw her in that one twice, as she was so wonderful). She was a joy to watch on the stage--I will never forget those performances. In her personal life she cared much about animal welfare. I think she lived in my area. So sad for her family foremost yet also for those of us who were touched by her great talent.

She understudied Fantine in the original production of Les Miserables.  I worked there when I first moved to NYC in 1987.  Her Fantine was beautifully acted and sung.  I'm so glad I was able to witness her performance several times.

A couple years ago, I went to see a production of OTHER DESERT CITIES at the Walnut Street Theatre in Philly. (I had a friend who was involved with the show.) I was surprised to open my program and see that Ann Crumb was playing Silda, the role that won Judith Light her Tony. She was far and away the best aspect of that production. I think that was one of her last stage appearances as she was diagnosed shortly thereafter. Rest In Peace.

"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

A true legend and Broadway DIVA. I highly recommend everyone to listen to Aspects if you are not familiar with it. To sing that score so many times a week must be challenging to say the least.

Very sad news!

But part of my lovely memories of her artistry were performances in ASPECTS OF LOVE which I had seen both in London and on Broadway! Her ANYTHING BUT LONELY and the duet with Michael Ball of SEEING IS BELIEVING in the cast recording are remarkable.
