I think it’s a great idea for a musical - I mean, Evita - But this all seems basic. Bland music. Bland design. Etc

We think this is in bad taste.

We have seen it, and we disagree.

People can play down Diana all they want, but she was big.  She developed almost an iconic stature, especially with her death at such a young age.  And this is why her memory resonates.  Watching her sons grow up and reported on at every turn does a lot to keep her alive as well.

For some though, being 20 years out from her death now might have the same impact that we saw with the 9/11 phenomenon....everyone being patriotic and supportive in the years that ensued after, but now that we're further from it, it's just a fleeting memory for many and people are back to being nasty to each other at every turn.  Memories fade real quickly in this country, and in this generation.

As for the musical though, I saw it in La Jolla and thought it was just okay.  It was entertaining.  But I always thought her life needed a bigger treatment.  More like a rock opera type of treatment.  Or a musical told in the manner of Evita.  Sung from start to finish.  Her iconic stature would fit that model better, imo, than the simple musical it is.  I think the Lifetime analogy was a good one.

I want better for Erin Davie.

The only way I would see a Diana musical is if it was written by Elton John.

So agree.

I'll never forget the terrible taste of having the Queen sing a verse of the stupid song, "F You Dress". What's more, in the next scene, the Queen must be the the one to defend the morals of the crown and arbitrate their break-up - and even sing a ballad about it after. Talk about completely stripping a character of all power just before you need them to have absolute power.

FINALLY, a show not replacing Jeanna for Broadway. This poor girl keeps on doing the out-of-town tryouts and then being replaced for Broadway. BRAVO TO HER AND THE CREATIVE TEAM!! She is SO talented and it’s about damn time!

While I do love aspects of the show. I also hope that some changes are made. Some of it plays out to be a bit of a mockery and campy.

The paparazzi song has to go. That “flash flash” song when I saw it I was appalled.
And true about the f dress song and the queen singing a verse

I think it really does need to be sung through ala evita because aspects get lost when we go from dialogue to song and the audience is confused how they should take it.

I would have loved if Elton John had written the music. (Honestly it likely would have seemed more in tune and a tribute ) plus he probably could have written it in a week.

I’m sure they will have revised some stuff. I just hope that they don’t make the mistake like the Cher show and strip it of aaaalll the depth and make it just razzle dazzle.

After having seen the show. I said that it was probably the most honest basis of what had really gone on. And it really doesn’t sanctify anyone involved. There were mistakes made on all sides. Which I really loved to see. The story is a tragedy and I hope not to lose that.

I do fear though that New York audiences won’t be too kind to this show. Especially with shows like six, moulin rouge and girl from the north county I feel that it made be “Ghost” of 2020. Open in March closed by Labor Day.
But for me this is a show that I enjoyed and hope to see again
