With the passing of Michel Legrand, may he R.I.P., it comes to mind his Academy winning score for Yentl...why hasn't this movie been made into a Broadway show?...it has everything...great songs and a great story.

thoughts?

1975’s YENTL wasn’t a musical.

They’re referring to making a Broadway musical adaptation of Streisand’s 1983 musical film adaptation that the late Michel Legrand scored.

Yep, I blew that. It was on Broadway obviously (and I saw it) but not as a musical which was indeed the question.

I think it might be an issue that no one other than the leading lady sings anything.

Singer/songwriter Jill Sobule also adapted Yentl as a musical. It played here in DC a few years ago. I didn’t see it, but the Post reviewed it.

Go ahead and shoot me if you want, but I love the movie and believe it features some of the loveliest songs I have ever heard. I’d be intrigued by a stage adaptation that included the songs from the movie, but for various reasons I doubt that’ll ever happen which is probably just as well.

I feel like all the songs are navel-gazing soliloquies that don't drive the plot and all sound the same.

There we go. Those were the words I was searching for.

My initial response to this post was just “Ah, no thank you. None of that.”
