GreeneStreet said: "His actions of shouting at the theatre, is NOT my fault. If anything its the liberal’s fault. If you didn’t complain about everything and anything trump does, you wouldn’t see this behavior. "

Thank you for showing your true colors today, GreeneStreet. You tried valiantly to play the “I’m not like regular Trump voters; I’m a cool Trump voter” card, but you just couldn’t help yourself, could ya?

No one is blaming you for another person’s behavior. But when you come on a thread decrying said behavior and say you voted for the man who has always endorsed exactly this kind of obnoxiousness, you are asking for backlash. Trump has always been exactly who he is, so you don’t get to act like you weren’t complicit in the endorsement of his character.

Sad to see that even the theatre community has some people supporting this administration that doesn't even respect the arts.

im not saying ignore it or stay silent  however these attacks and arguments don’t solve the situation  only aggravate it

Thanks, Mom! I’m happier letting readers of this thread know that bigots and their supporters (tacit or explicit) are unwelcome here than staying silent and allowing them to believe this will all blow over one day.

Again. I’m not saying ignore but arguing with a grown adult is not going to change their mind. I’m a triple threat minority. Gay, agnostic , And Mexican-American. If Trump rhetoric and his followers were to have their way my existence is put out to pasture.

Also, I live in texas. The reddest of all states. I don’t ignore it, I live in it, and create a peaceful existence out of it.

I could go on here about how much it sucks being a person like me in Texas, however again changing peoples minds is not something you can do on a message board, or by shouting and arguing with them. Move forward and understand that at the end of the day good will prevail over evil. Life is going to suck, your not going to agree with everyone, your life is in danger, but at the end of the day what is right will come forward.

If theater, broadway, life has taught me anything is to remember that at the end of the day something good must come out of all this.

"it gets harder to be in this theatre community as a conservative,"

You realize that Broadway actors hate Trump and his supporters, right?  Probably 99.9% do anyway.  They don't want people like you at their shows, or anywhere frankly.  They aren't a huge supporter of division of families, sexual assault, misogyny and Nazis.

Oh, and to answer your question, Hillary is always well received when she walks into a theater.  Why?  Because she stands for tolerance, compassion and isn't full of hatred.  I have been there twice when she walked in with Bill. Standing ovation, tears, smiles. All love. Your dude wouldn't even be invited in. Think about that while you support rape and never try to defend 45 on this board again.

But it will. There will come a day years from now that this will all blow over. Horrible things have occurred all throughout human history and we have learned from it and only can move forward and hope that it’ll be a brighter tomorrow.

Im more than capable and find it great when people have these arguments but to spend days feeling angry about it doesn’t help you or anyone.

(I'm very anti-Trump but)

I love people who supported Hillary bring up that Trump is a rapist.

Yeah, Trump is a rapist.

But

Bill Clinton is too.... and Hillary did a LOT of covering up for him...

fliponaswitch, when I was in college (and to a lesser extent now) I agree with you about not succumbing to these sorts of arguments and discourses because it does aggravate the situation. But after more than a decade of speaking to people on the other side, (I grew up in a extreme red state), you start to learn how to read people's intentions better and I find many people don't really have good intentions and make certain comments in bad faith while making certain underhanded comments about "the left" or whatever phrase to use to group all people they secretly hate who have a different opinion about them. When Trump supporters, it's gone to a new extreme, and people who learned to "ignore" trolls or whatever realized that may not be the best strategy.

Maybe the best thing to do towards Greenestreet was to take his comments at face value and calmly try to explain our positions, but again with the bad intentions, many people just now cut to the chase and call it as they see it because it's a lot less time and energy wasted to get a response that is essentially what GreeneStreet has been giving. Many of us have probably attempted to talk in good faith with many people like GreenStreet our whole lives only to realize it's just talking to a brick wall who only regurgitates things that make no sense in the context of the argument but is only there to troll. He came here and played victim up-and-down and people could not help themselves but to answer back because people are at their wit's end.

It still amazes me that anyone who professes to love theater and all this community stands for would ever vote for or support that cretin.

I still would like one of the Trump supporters on here to hohestky answer how they can support a man whose beliefs are anathema to everything the arts stand for. I’ve been asking here for two years now and all they’ll say is “I don’t have to justify my vote to you.”

@scottydoesntknow2

I completely agree! As I said, I live in Texas and in a very conservative area. So I get it, I grew in a catholic school environment which until recently in my town was ultra conservative.

Luckily, my family and the people I associate with are in agreement with most of my views, and if not tolerate them and I hope care about me in some way.

However when I see things like this thread. I go into two modes. First. I bust out the popcorn and start playing Mambo from West Side Story and love watching the drama unfold. These types of threads and stuff are great, however there has to come a point where it just gets old. I’m a huge negative Nancy as they say. I look at the wrong sides of everything, over thinker, anxious, and as of late paranoid. I’ve begun carrying my passport just in case something were to happen. As my dad and Boy Scout leader used to say “Be Prepared”

I get being angry, vigilant, but to hold on to it for more than a few hours, possibly days is just ridiculous. I feel like you are hurting yourself more than the person you are attacking. Yes, do what is needed to be done and move the world as best you can but to be a constant negative towards a stranger on the internet.

Also, we as theater fans sort of need to stick together, we are a minority in this country suffice to say. Instead of being on the attack let’s band together and accept each other’s differences.

I can totally see that. It's kind of stewing in the anger in a way that may not be productive or healthy. Maybe some of us, at least I was, were probably using GreeneStreet as a way to vent and express some real anger just because he was there, within reach unlike those who we're really angry about, and he was punching back with some things many of us couldn't let pass (the weird logic, victimhood, etc.), so it became almost like therapy except it may not be leading to a good result but instead making the anger worse. However, I do think many of the responses, not mine, that were given to him were great exercises of expressing their position and why one needs to take responsibility for their vote/positions/expressions.

Oh believe me. I wanted to fight back but my mode of watching it unfold was prevailing. I was a huge argumentative person towards politics during the election. Even photographed in the local newspaper. However for my sanity, I had to put that to the side. Also this year was incredibly difficult for my family where we weren’t able to go to New York due to my dads surgery. Long story short, I’ve become a lot calmer due to it.

You mean, when he was given an opportunity to speak onstage?

And then just last month someone tried to send him a bomb for it?
