The new series ‘The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ has many subtle nods to real people who are supposed to have been part of the witching community.

There was mention of Ray Bradbury and Anne Boleyn. Several characters with family names from the Salem Witch Trials (used also in ‘The Crucible’) and a wonderful sardonic nod to Mr Rodgers and Mr Hammerstein being followers of Lucifer as Do Rai Me is sung at the Unseen Academy by the Witch’s choir! Haha

They mention a Cousin Montgomery who became an actor, too. Some younger audiences might think its a reference to Madison Montgomery from AHS: Coven, but I prefer to think it’s a nod to Bewitched star, Elizabeth Montgomery.

Madison Montgomery was named after Elizabeth Montgomery in Coven, if I recall- it works both ways.

That’s what I thought when Coven first aired, but since then I think Ryan Murphy has said that it’s a callback to the original owners of the Murder House— the Montgomerys. Tbh, I think Ryan Murphy makes up a lot of this as he goes along though...

Speaking of Elizabeth Montgomery, she was such a great actor. I wish she could have been around for this era of prestige TV.

YES! I completely missed that.

You also see Alfred Hitchcock’s silhouette in mortal limbo.

I assumed they were referring to Montgomery Clift since they were comparing his looks to Sabrina's father. Also it'd be odd if someone referred to a family member by their second name. If they were talking about Elizabeth Montomery wouldn't the line be "just like Cousin Elizabeth?"

Let me just say, thank their lucky gay stars that so many gay, trans, and POC are getting jobs that to the Greg Berlsnti (sp?) river dale, super hero universe and the twisted (at times) Murphy/ Falchuk. They are supposed to be writing for tweens and gen y but with all the old references they semi to entertain savvy older viewers.
BTW , as for Sabrina, “Passions “ any one, ? dark shadows, ?? A more entertain Serling/Hitchcock wannabe is Room 104. Sabrina does have some scares but it’s not Buffy yet. Am I Happy they are out there? Sure! However, i don’t get all the asides or inside jokes unless I watch some of them next to Wikipedia or the you tube library.

i will say this about Sabrina,,,it has the bitchenest opening title sequence I’ve seen since I don’t know when..
