Yes. But Sir Ian is the cat who starts me purring. Perfect casting. I don't believe anyone in 'CATS" was mis-cast. They all fit their parts well.
"

Considering Old Deuteronomy is supposed to be a male , I'd argue that Judi Dench is miscast.

If anyone wants to see it with a fun crowd in a full house, go see it at the AMC on 42nd Street on Tuesdays. Only $6. Lots of people were laughing in the "wrong" places but clearly having a blast, myself included.

Saw a preview of the new "Peter Rabbit" movie at "Little Women" last night and, whatever special effects it employed,  the rabbits are absolutely adorable, realistic and not scary at all. Perhaps it would have been smarter for "Cats" to have gone in that direction. The preview for the new "Dr. Dolittle" also featured a bunch of beautifully rendered, expressive animals and the one for "The Call of the Wild" a melt-your-heart lead performance by a CGI dog. Were all these animal movies scheduled to be released in the coming weeks  in hopes of riding the would-be financially lucrative tail of "Cats"? Also, Is there anybody in Hollywood with a fresh new idea?

Also saw preview for "In the Heights" -- looks like a big and bright production. Keeping my paws crossed.

I was just browsing the local second run theater’s website for an idea of what to do on my day off when in the “SHOWTIMES” second I stumbled on Cats with a text that read: “HELD OVER BY REQUEST- LAST WEEK SHOWING.”

A cult classic is born.

Indeed. I’m attending a private screening in Los Angeles at a major Oscar winning actress’ home in a few weeks. Everyone was asked to not see the film in advance. So many are super excited for this so the Phase 2 of the film is quickly growing.

Oh, they needed to lean into the actual reception of this film more with those features. That bonus features list seems like it was a holdover from their delusions of grandeur for this.

That may be true, but for some like me I'm thankful they are including so many features. That behind-the-scene teaser (that was released before the very first trailer) showed a lot of potential and made the BTS action more riveting than before the VFX.

There's a pretty good story about Cats 2019 on This American Life this week--it's the last 13 minutes or so of the new episode called "Everyone's a Critic"  I have a feeling the people on here who are like me and enjoyed the movie more than everyone else will appreciate!

Purchased this on iTunes (which comes in 4K) and the special features I’ve seen so far are intriguing; some even more so than the film itself. The cat school footage was so humbling seeing Ian McKellen’s commitment. Robbie Fairchild and Frankie Hayward get their own mini-doc video about their dance careers and how they utilize it in the film and that was also enjoyable.

I just purchased this on Vudu for weekend viewing. I can't wait to be taken away from Coronavirus madness for a couple of hours! I'm sure I'll hate it...but "boy, do I need it now!" Some of you may remember that catchphrase from the original THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT movie release in the mid 70s.

Back then, it was THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT: Boy Do We Need it Now!

I just saw this on Buzzfeed

I would 100% buy (or at least rent) that version of the movie.

OK - so I'm just watching this for the very first time.

1 - I had never been a fan of Cats - (only saw it once, which was enough) - although as an ALW fan, I did enjoy the music
2 - Was not put off by the early trailers and was actually intrigued/curious about it
3 - Most definitely was swayed by the visceral negative reaction to not bother going to see it in the theaters

Now, I don't know if being self-quarantined is getting to me... maybe I have the corona - but honestly I don't get all the negativity about this or see why it tanked.  I mean - it's Cats - it's a known thing that was a crazy premise to begin with but was wildly successful.  For me, setting the whole thing from Victoria's perspective gave the show a stronger semblance of a story then it had on stage.  Singing and orchestrations are awesome (and saddens me that I doubt we'll ever get a full length soundtrack release after it bombed).  As for the CGI - it doesn't seem that awkward to me.  I mean is it a bit weird?  OK, I'll grant you that.  But what did anyone think it would be when you had Cats... singing, dancing, talking about a new Jellicle life?

To me, the critics - saw lashing this as a softball for them to smash and see who could out snark the next one (and in some cases I wonder if they even saw it).
