I'm headed to NYC in a few weeks and I have tickets for Dolly, OOTI, Band's Visit, Come From Away, and Waitress. I have one night left, and I can't decide what to see: Spongebob or Kinky Boots? I have seen Kinky Boots before (with Brendon Urie), and I loved it beyond words. I saw J. Harrison Ghee as Lola and he was magnificent. I just read that he went back in after Billy Porter and I would love to see him again. On the other hand, Spongebob is new. I have only listened to a few songs, and I enjoyed them. I was never a fan of the show growing up, but I have heard good things about the show.
Since you've seen Kinky Boots, definitely SpongeBob. Even folks who didn't particularly enjoy the TV series have widely agreed that 1) the show is a night of pure fun 2) Ethan Slater's Broadway debut is a can't-miss marvel
I, personally, have no interest in Spongebob, but I still recommend it over something already seen. However, if Kinky Boots really spoke to you, maybe its worth a second time.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
Since you’ve already seen Kinky Boots, I would go with Spongebob. Both are great shows, but IMO, it’s better to see something new than go back to something you’ve already seen.

I have seen Kinky 4 times and loved every single performance. I have not seen Sponge Bob.
Still, it seems eminently logical to me that you should see Spongebob. It is new, it got good reviews, it is not yet clear whether it is going to run. Although I think this is unlikely, this could be the only chance to see it. There are going to be productions of Kinky Boots forever...national touring shows, regional theatres, summer stock, colleges, etc. You will have plenty of opportunities.
