Just updated my profile picture to show the new me. Photos were taken 18 months and 130 pounds apart. No surgery, just diet and exercise. Lots of exercise, no specific diet. You can change yourself, even in your mid-50s.

Congratulations! What a wonderful achievement. I am currently in the middle of a weight-loss journey myself -- 30 pounds dropped since the beginning of the year, and ideally 30 more to get to my goal weight -- so your accomplishment inspires me to fight on.
"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe."

Unfortunately for me, in the same timeframe I seem to have piled on the weight and my before/after pictures are the other way 'round...I guess a deskjob can have that effect.
Congratulations on your resolve. Keep it up.

Thanks! I was never able to win the Hair lottery, but I was lucky enough to win the hair lottery.
As for the midsection, I was so heavy for so long that I need to accept that I will always have excess skin hanging around. I’ve decided to own it like a badge of honor.

Just choose the right marathon. The Honolulu Marathon is unique among world marathons (I will do it next year). Runners and walkers alike are welcomed. The course is flat, you're surrounded by a tropical paradise, and there is NO time limit. The finish line is kept open until the very last participant runs, walks or crawls across. Plus, they have some of the best promo videos ever.
Brian, this is an incredible accomplishment. Congratulations! I've been a yo-yo dieter all my life, and I can never seem to keep the weight off. I'm currently down 10 pounds in the past few months (from my highest weight). I know you said you don't follow a specific diet, but I'd love to hear what a day of eating generally looks like for you. You're inspiring!
By the way, the photographer who took my “after” photo is a friend and former colleague. She was looking for “ordinary” volunteers for a project, so I figured, “Why not?” Anyway, if anyone is looking for a talented photographer to work with, I can put you in touch.

Wow. That's awesome. I am an RN and a diabetes educator, and am in awe of your accomplishment. Wish my patients would take diet and exercise more seriously.

There are plastic surgeons who would be happy to take care of that. (Sorry, as an RN, I tend to give advice).
