Coming to the city the end of October. What Off-Broadway shows should I see?

Sweeney Todd

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I don't know how long you'll be staying, but the Atlantic Theater Company is going to be staging a show called Describe the Night, starting November 11th

Tiny Beautiful Things!  I saw it about two weeks ago, and I thought it was a wonderful show.  The cast are amazing!

What about Too Heavy For Your Pocket? Or Afterglow? Has anyone seen those?

I'd say KPop and Torch Song are two of the biggies at the moment.

I'll second the fanfare around Torch Song and Sweeney Todd, Afterglow was dreadful and I've only heard poor reviews from friends who have seen Clockwork. How long are you in town? The Wolves starts at LCT November 1 and is generating major buzz.

Ghost Quartet is supposed to be getting an extension, but be quick.  It sells out fast.  KPOP ends Oct 21.

I just saw Sweeney Todd on Saturday and Torch Song on Sunday.  I highly recommend them both.  Tonight is KPOP and Tiny Beautiful Things is Wednesday, so I can't comment on them yet, but reviews are great for both.

If you're willing to check out something more conventional (and can't get a ticket to the buzzy shows... Sweeney Todd, K Pop, etc.) I enjoyed Desperate Measures at the York. Relatively speaking, the material is pretty good and the cast is fantastic. Even when the material isn't up to snuff, they win you over with their earnestness.

I haven't had any luck with plays lately.

Last weekend I saw In and of Itself and really liked it a lot. Like most are saying, Sweeney Todd is also great.

Reviews not that great for Tiny, Because, Things. 55% positive on Show Score. I was disappointed. Mary Jane is 95% for what it's worth

"In and of itself" was one of the best pieces of theatre I've ever seen. cannot recommend it enough.

Mary Jane, which runs through next weekend, is absolutely the show to see.

"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

If you can get tickets, Mary Jane and Torch Song.

A little swash, a bit of buckle - you'll love it more than bread.

I thought that A Clockwork Orange was good! The lead actor who plays Alex is incredible.
