And it will...can the whole ticket situation...cancellation line etc. situation get any worse? If Chorus Line won, Hamilton just has to. And of course anything can get worse but....just venting I guess. And on a side note..."Blackbird" is sensational....great performances by Michelle Williams and Jeff Daniels and quite thought provoking. See it. Often at half price TKTS booth. Update..and of course they did win… So obvious I can't even humble brag about it because that would be stupid... And agree with most of the posters that things have reached such a crescendo now that the Pulitzer can't have much more effect other then some may pay the absolutely exorbitant crazy extortion you kidnap my kid prices on certain websites for tickets. That said I would pay $1000 to be in the orchestra tonight... Can you imagine what is going to happen when he walks on stage? Oh Em Gee… Chills just thinking about it… And so well deserved!

Forgive my ignorance but surely one way to help solve this problem would be to increase supply (I.e., open up new tickets far in advance).

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

I think they really can't open up tickets that far in advance because they don't want, for instance, May 2016 and May 2017 tickets in circulation at the same time. Too confusing. But why they haven't opened up a new block for February and March 2017, I don't know..

Since it is sold out through early 2017, tens of thousands are trying to win lottery tickets for every show, and the cancellation line looks like a homeless camp... I'd guess no?

I don't foresee it impacting the demand for tickets through sources like the cancellation line much if it at all. Because it already has become so visible in the mainstream culture, the kind of people who haven't heard of it yet aren't going to suddenly have interest because of it winning the Pulitzer. They'd practically need to do the Super Bowl halftime show to outdo the publicity they've already gotten.

Well I am waiting to see how bad it gets during the summer, although I doubt the Pulitzer will impact it.  If anything, I am sure Hamilton will perform at the Tony's and that could generate more for some that have had their head in the sand.

What I am waiting to see is when the OBC starts to depart, will this have an effect on demand. Once LMM and Leslie Odom stops performing, I think this will reduce demand unless they are replaced with big names.

How will that affect the summer on a show where every performance is sold out through this calendar year?

I'm inclined to think that the OBC being in the show has nothing to do with how well ticket sales are. It's sold out for the next year basically and no names are advertised. Surely the people buying tix this far in advance want to see it with or without the OBC.

I am referring to the cancellation lines and resale ticket prices.

Casting has zero impact with this show.  In my lifetime, I've never seen a brand sell as this, other than RENT and CHORUS LINE.  And neither of them come close. And both of them sold without ticket buyers having any idea of the cast performing on the day of attendance.

I think the secondhand tickets will get SLIGHTLY cheaper when the OBC leaves only because a lot of people are willing to pay even more to see this cast. However, I absolutely think the tickets will sell out just as quickly and continue to sell for extortionate amounts on StubHub etc. When this show is getting talked about in the media they're talking about how popular the show is, not specific cast members. I also have every faith that Hamilton will recast this show keeping in mind that people have paid a lot to see the show and the next cast should be just as good. I'm sure a ton of people are turning up at auditions also so they should have enough choice to choose an incredible cast.

Most of the advance tickets sold went to scalpers. Just look at future tickets being sold on Ticketmaster.  It seems more than half the tickets sold are available right now through resale. Those prices can and will still fluctuate.

I am waiting for the day that ticket resale prices come down to face value. When will that happen?

I think they were probably confusing you with the other Dave (Dave19 I think) which I have done in the past.

Honestly I'd make the most of the hype while it's here. It will be gone eventually and people will go back to not caring about musicals for 20 years until the next huge one comes along.

My guess is that they are going to eliminate cancellation line. I just can't see it lasting over the summer when temperatures are in the 90s and the humidity is up - it becomes a hazard to the safety of everyone.

They'll likely either come up with a solution for the cancellation line (such as an online waiting list perhaps) or lotto cancelled tickets.

I didn't notice it before although I have noticed a few hostile posts directed at me and I couldn't figure out where it came from.  I don't post that often. Maybe I will change my name and keep my picture.

They have no reason to open up future blocks. There are plenty of current tickets to be purchased through Ticketmaster reselling. Since it's clear TM has a deal with producers I see them wanting to get those sold prior to opening up future blocks.

In a "I'm having a vision" future, I see people who bought their tickets as soon as they could not aware that the original cast would leave it will try and make what they can to get rid of their tickets.

I saw many people (on this board) complaining about Hamilton understudies, saying, basically, that they're not the original cast.

But only time can tell.

ON TOPIC

I hope we see some smart media attention  focused on the  runner-ups.  Allow these plays to receive some sort of spotlight - so that they can, in their regional premieres and productions moving forward, have an elevated presence and not get overshadowed by Hamilton (which is truly worthy of this accolade)

On this site, sure there are going to be a lot of OBC-obsessed people (and I kick myself daily for not scalping tickets early and going again and again and again), but I don't think a majority of people are hoping they see Daveed Diggs, and Leslie and on and on... especially, if they really stack the deck with amazing replacement talent. I never saw Groff, since I haven't been back some seeing the OG King at the Public, but I wouldn't mind if I saw Rory instead. I am a bit more precious about some of the other featured, but I think we're a tiny minority.

You really think people that have been willing to spend a ton of money on tickets are gonna give them up just because it's a different cast? Knowing that they wont be able to see it again for another 12 months if they change their mind?

People aren't complaining about understudies because they're not the original cast. Javier and Sydney have been heavily praised. A couple of the other understudies haven't, presumably because their performance isn't up to scratch, not because they aren't the originals. And I doubt that the Hamilton understudies will take over on Broadway, maybe with the exception of Javier. The NYT article on Jeffrey Seller indicated that Sydney was being looked at for Chicago.

I doubt Hamilton winning the Pulitzer will really make that big of a difference to its ticket availability.

It's already saturated the media and has crazy hype. There comes a point when further accolades and discussion don't add more.
