Idina Menzel World Tour

I think there might be a bit of a culture/country thing here too (I'm in the UK) - because I've never heard of not expecting a concert to start on the time stated on the ticket regardless as to whether or not there is an opening act. Okay, yes 5 or so minutes is fine but I go to loads of concerts and if the act isn't on stage by about 15-20 minutes after it's stated on the ticket the slow handclapping starts. Even Lady Gaga was bang on time when I saw her - and U2 were also pretty much bang on time (maybe 5-10 minutes late) both times I saw them. Idina's concerts are by far the latest I've ever seen a performer take to the stage in my 20+ years of concert going. Maybe I've just been really lucky, but it's not something I've heard of and therefore has come accross as pretty unprofessional/rude/diva-ish when I've experienced it at Idina's concerts. Regardless of whether it is a management decision or not the only person who ends up looking bad and taking the annoyance is the performer.

And yea, on social media it's not really Idina's fans who are complaining (except for those who had to leave early and miss songs because she was late on) so much as people who are new to Idina and who aren't impressed with the late start (and the language).

The show just started 35 minutes after your incorrect assumptions. She wasn't late. Not sure why this became such a surprise for the Fanzels. U2 started their concerts 25 to 35 minutes after the start time with no opening act on every date of their US tour. People who weren't getting there early to queue up just arrived at that time, since it was well-established online that was the case."

It wasn't that much of a surprise; it bothered my parents much more than it bothered me. (I didn't care, actually; she was going to come out onstage regardless.)

I'm glad I read the boards so that I will anticipate a late evening at her upcoming concert.

I believe the delay is all about selling more alcohol, so that the venue makes more income.

Years ago I questioned Ushers / Security at Boston Garden about the delayed start for Bon Jovi.

The comments were, "they delay it to sell more alcohol". Now that I think about, all the concerts I have been to all started 30-60 minutes after they were scheduled.

Her Hollywood Bowl stop costs so much. The area where I ususally sit is in Section E and it always cost around $55-65 but for this it costs $126. I cannot miss this but I'm going to sit even more back. I need to buy binoculars. I will be fine. Either way someone is going to record it, and put it on youtube. So I can always go back and search for some songs. This will be my first "concert". Wait scratch that, I'm seeing Audra McDonald at the Bowl, so SHE will be my first. I'm super excited to see such legendary performers on stage. AND I'm seeing Kristin Chenoweth in November. Love all these ladies.

@JoseLee  If you are going on your own then do this.  Buy the cheapest seat possible at the Bowl. The day of the show check the interactive seating chart  before 5 pm ( they remove it 3 hours before showtime) .  You will probably see chunks of sections that are empty.  Move up without ever going to your original seat.   Idina is far from sold out.  One thing with the Bowl is that unless you are at the very front you will be watching the show on a screen.  So I wouldn't worry about it too much.

You can try your luck just a day or two before the show. I don't know about Hollywood Bowl specifically, but previous venues with "VIP" options had some good seats mysteriously appear days before the actual show, and without the VIP pricing. Other large venues have had last-minute comps. I think the Hollywood Bowl venue is large enough that it won't sell out for her, so waiting for last-minute discounts may very well work. (No guarantees, obviously.)

Also, I believe the Hollywood Bowl has jumbotrons, so you don't need to worry about not seeing a speck of Menzel.

@DAME Thank you for the tip. I will definelty look into this. I like sitting in Section E because its the closest you can sit to the stage in regular benches. The rest are boxes with 4 random people. I will feel so awkward sitting with 3 other random people. BUT there are so many empty seats, so I will try to/will. Thanks :p

I was able to move our seats to 2nd row, center section for her show this weekend in Indy. They were originally premium and then changed to the standard $99. I am so pumped for the show!

I'll be seeing her tonight in Detroit! I'm so excited!

Dame said basically move down from your original seat.  Dame, I knew  I liked you.  If you act like you know what you're doing and not get too greedy with seat location, it works most of the time.  Another tip.  If I see a show isn't selling, I will buy the uppers.  At least where I live, on concert day, they give you free upgrades to the lower level.  They don't want to pay ticket staff and concessions staff if no one is in those areas.

The arena was pretty empty when she came to our town (Bristow, VA).  It's called the Jiffy Lube Live center (awesome lube jokes by Idina, by the way), and it's one of those were the cheapest seats are lawn seats.  Every concert I have been to there the lawn is PACKED.  There were 0 people in the lawn for Idina and a ton of empty seats in the actual seating area.   But I actually loved that better.  Everyone kind of shifted their way up and the kids were able to run up to her during the appropriate parts and such.  It kind of made it more intimate.  I wouldn't expect anything less from that area, though, seeing as 95% of the headliners there are country music people. As for the lateness, I think she started exactly 35 minutes late because the first picture on my camera says "8:35", haha.

I loved every second of it though.  I'm not the biggest fan of her voice in actual Broadway shows, but I love it when she's singing rock songs.  It's got that edginess to it that fits them super well.

The Jiffy Lube Center also seats 25,000 people including lawn, which is even bigger than the Hollywood Bowl's 17k-ish capacity. I rather doubt any Broadway star can fill such big arenas, especially outside tri state where their work is less known, so I wonder why Menzel ended up in such venues.

The Murat Theatre that she is playing in Indy has around 2500 seats. The balcony is completely sold out and there are about 30 seats on each side of the far side, far back orchestra sections.

Can't we just say that the show started at 8:35?! I think it's well established that she doesn't start at the time on the ticket, in keeping with every other concert anyone has attended in the last decade. Late is starting after a designated time, and the one on the ticket is never it.

Beyond excited to see Idina for the first time tomorrow night. (10/3) It will be her last world tour date. I was wondering how long it is? It starts at 8 (I know it won't start at exactly) and if there is an act one, intermission, then act two? or just one act... sorry I've never been to a concert :p

No intermission. Show started around 8:30, and finished at 10:20. She talks to the audience a lot, which could make it a little shorter or longer, but plan on around 2 hours.

Can't believe it's over already. I remember when she just announced the dates and everyone was so excited. Overall it seems like the tour was incredibly successful? I know nothing other than satisfied audiences and what appeared to be close to sold out crowds, but nothing of actual financial statistics. Either way, congrats to her. A Broadway star who was able to tour the world. Incredibly interested to see what she does next.

I believe only two Billboard Boxscores were published for her tour this year, which seems odd. The first concert's data was of an unusual venue where all the tickets were the same price with free access to local residents. The second concert's data was for Ruth Eckerd Hall, FL ($207157 gross, 1868/2080 seats sold, tickets $128.75-$58.75). That was ranked #46 out of 167 for whatever date range. Generally, it does seem that her tour was quite successful--for a Broadway star whose public profile rose from a single movie song--especially if she managed to move a lot of merchandise along the way.

I was at the Hollywood Bowl last night. Fantastic show! I was pleasantly surprised how intimate it felt given the size of the venue. Congrats to Vince for being THE most enthusiastic person to ever sing Take Me Or Leave Me ??  http://youtu.be/e9B-R2R9bZQ

Great show. It's funny cause me and 7 other people waited 2 hours and 30 minutes after the show to meet Idina. The people that worked there kicked us out so much, we were hiding, it was ridiculously fun. We finally got to see Idina for seconds because her people would not let her sign much or take pictures. It was worth it though. My signed poster was the hardest autograph I've ever gotten, and favorite. She was amazing on stage.

I was there last night as well, and thought she put on a fabulous show.  As Popular said, even though the Bowl is a huge venue, it felt relatively intimate.  Watching hordes of small children descend to the front of the house to help her sing Let it Go was adorable.

She was also in great voice.

She SANGGGG every song. I felt every single word. I also saw James Syder, LaChanze, and Anthony Rapp last night. So glad the other If/Then cast came to see her last show. Now I'm excited to see If/Then.

I thought that was Anthony I saw walking in! Man I was waiting/hoping she'd bring him up at some point. Can we also mention the Let it Go/Red Hot Chili Peppers mashup?

I was at the Hollywood Bowl show Saturday night and I thought she sounded fantastic. Loved her song list too.  She was so cute and personable, reminds me of years ago when I saw her at the Wiltern Theatre and she told stories of how she was a wedding singer before Rent.
