Why do you think Lea Michele should give up that role?
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.
^^dreaming, we posted at the same time. My comment wasn't to you but to the original comment.

Lea Michele apparently already turned it down. And she is smart to do so. Particularly if she does indeed plan to do FUNNY GIRL on Broadway. They need an unknown. And Mueller is unknown to TV so I say its a great fit!
Anne Hathaway IS Barbra Streisand (can't get an EGOT unless you do tv).

If you read the linked article about Lea Michele turning down the role you will find that the ONLY reason she turned the role is NOT because she didn't want to play it, but because she did not want to do it as a television movie. If it would have been a major motion picture she would have jumped at the chance.
Wow, just when you think you can't dislike someone more.....sheesh.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
I think she would be really great. She could do the "kooky" side of Barbra very well (something Lea likely would never have been able to do convincingly). And the other sides too, of course.
I don't think of Streisand as "Kooky". Done kooky early roles.
I was under the impression that the TV movie would be about only her early (Pre-FUNNY GIRL) career. I do agree she's lost most of her kookiness, or at least doesn't show it anymore.
I wonder if Jesse capture the essence of Barbra's voice. I feel like she's gonna be typecast as the actress who does voices. Perhaps she can replace Audra in Lady Day.
Lea Michelle just seems way too immature to me to be playing Barbra (even Barbra at Lea's age right now). I always felt like Barbra was an old soul and I just do not see that in Lea.
The biography that's the basis for the bio pic covers only five years -- basically from Streisand's earliest days in New York City up to the opening of FUNNY GIRL. Though it can be argued that on an over-view, Streisand hasn't had a hugely interesting life (in terms of the kinds of drama you are looking for in a film) the five years covered in this biography are fascinating as they chronicle an almost meteoric rise in popularity and fame from complete obscurity.
Among other things covered are the 'invention' of the Streisand persona - including the 'kook' character which was all rather manufactured.
I think anyone who has seen interviews with Mueller can attest to her rather off beat personality. Of all the young performers today I think she's the closest to the essence of early Streisand (sort of how Barbra was close to the 'essence' of Fanny Brice without being an imitation.) And I think there is enough of a resemblance that it could be made to be plausible as well...
