Lorna entered through the back of the Birdland dining area in a pink sequins top singing Pink's "Get This Party Started!" She looks terrific and sounds terrific.
Then Liza joins her onstage to sing a medley included IF MOMMA WAS MARRIED!!!
Ann Hampton Callaway (a breast cancer survivor as well) sang a gorgeous mash up of People and Being Alive.
Then her sister decided to belt out THE STORY GOES ON as if she were recording it for the OBCR.
The evening ended with Ann and Lorna recreating the Streisand/Garland medley and they both blew me away.
Lorna announced that she wants to play Mame and some producer needs to make this happen, even if it's just an Encoresy type run.
I'm so happy for Lorna triumphing over her disease and then putting on a show like this. May there be many more to come!!!
Marie: Don't be in such a hurry about that pretty little chippy in Frisco.
Tony: Eh, she's a no chip!
And Whizzer--don't you know that medley? It's the one they sang together on the Tony Awards, twenty years ago. Tonight was their first time singing together since then:
I didn't know Liza and Lorna were singing an old medley. How has that one slipped under my radar?!?!
This is going to sound like complete cheese, but it's true: the night was very inspiring and uplifting. Lorna is not just a survivor, but someone who turned what could have been a the lowest point of her life into a celebration. She was so happy and that joy oozed out of her. Like Phyllis Newman said, "The best part of being in the entertainment industry is that when bad things happen, we perform."
Btw, in just two shows Lorna raised over $100,000 for charity.
Marie: Don't be in such a hurry about that pretty little chippy in Frisco.
Tony: Eh, she's a no chip!
Just like people like to think Paul and Yoko are feuding. (At long last, Paul's finally reached a state of "she made him happy, so I... can live with that, I guess." Good, because the source of the tension was beginning to become more and more obvious the older they got.)
"People have their opinions and that doesn't mean that their opinions are wrong or right. I just take it with a grain of salt because opinions are like as*holes, everyone has one".
