Don't go to the stage door, rush line, first preview, last show and you'll never notice fans.

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

"Headband - Oh, I have. Just not in connection with this show."

Fair enough, Matt. I get what you're saying. Anthony Rapp to Join Idina Menzel and LaChanze in IF/THEN!

You can't blame WickedRocks and others for trying to connect the dots by assuming that those same fans will be out in full force again, though. Not that it makes any difference to me!

I just don't think you can really connect the dots on a rabid fan base of youngsters from 10-15 years ago that was more based on the shows themselves than the performers (anyone else playing Elphaba in the original Broadway cast of the tween-target Wicked would have developed the same following as Menzel).

I saw Menzel in concert a couple of times in the past few years and those fans were just fans. Nothing really rabid or crazy going on. And maybe this show will create a new batch of crazy fans. I just wouldn't jump to conclusions based on these particular assumptions.

Now, when they announced Bernadette starring Follies, the dots practically connected themselves.

I'll still see the show, I'm still extremely excited for the show, I am a fan of many of the people involved with the show, and the material I have heard so far is very promising. I'm just making a comment about the fans that have flocked to these performers'/writers' shows before. I would assume that they will go crazy for this show as well. That is all. No one is "exploding" here. I have stories for days about NEXT TO NORMAL, RENT, and WICKED fans, some even from people involved in the shows. But every time someone posts those stories on here, the thread gets deleted.

At the end of the day, I really don't care all that much. If these "fans" interfere with my enjoyment of the show, which N2N fans did at certain points in the run, then I'll care. If they want to wake up at 3am two weeks before opening for rush seats, I really couldn't care less.

I'd also love to know where in this thread I didn't "give credit" for this show being an original musical. That never happened.

I'm just making a prediction about the fan base and sharing my personal experiences that are relevant. If you think I'm wrong, you're perfectly entitled to think that as well. Time will tell. That's all! Updated On: 8/1/13 at 05:43 PM

Ohh, I'm excited to see the next Rapp/Pascal facebook/BWW/Twitter meltdown over the negative comments on here.
Love LaChanze, like Menzel, don't think Rapp knows how to act. Who knows? Maybe he's gotten better now that he's older, and maybe he's gotten a little over himself. Color me intrigued, I don't dislike him enough to stay away from this, given LaChanze and Menzel's involvement, but I'd much have preferred a dozen other actors.

I also wanna mention that Menzel has arguably never sounded better. I've heard her sing a few songs from the score, and she really sounds great. The folksy sound of the music I've heard seems really well-suited to her voice. Updated On: 8/1/13 at 06:00 PM

This thread is everything horrible and wonderful about this place. It's horrerful.

Also, I automatically assumed the headline was poking fun of the exact response the story has elicited.

Go to your room.

And then begin familiarizing yourself with LaChanze. Immediately.

Haha Headband! I need to. I do know she won a Tony for The Color Purple, and she's great on that cast album.

I need to see this. Rapp is decent. I saw him in concert with Pascal 'cuz a group of friends went and I went along for the ride and I found Pascal to be the much more interesting one. Plus, after meeting both of them briefly after the show, Pascal was by far the friendliest of the two.
However with Menzel and LaChanze on board, I'm buying a ticket as soon as they go on sale.

Yeah, Wicked's rabid section of its fanbase is all but dissipated. The Witches of Oz forum is drier than Elaine Stritch. There's been about one post about the show since December.

I'm mostly looking forward to Idina moving her arms randomly when she doesn't know what else to do.

And sticking her jaw out as far as possible to belt "Iiiiiffff, theeeeeeee (jaw) eeeeeen.."

Not surprised, wasn't he already attached? I am very happy! Anthony is a very passionate man. I love me some RENT OBC. I decided not to read the comments on this post. If I wanted to read a bunch of negative feedback I would have allowed comments on website thatishorrible.com

The RENTHEADs are alive and well and they still ruin everything. They are just older, slower and more irritating. There is also young RENTHEAD spawn-I dont know where they have come from but I want to have them all gassed.

I just still don't understand how the fans can ruin something. Maybe I can understand N2N when at the last performance apparently there was a lot of attention-seeking crying going on (i.e. it actually disrupts the show), and I can understand the rush lines etc.... but GENERALLY, everyone is quiet during the show so do they really ruin it?

That said, when I saw RENT off-broadway some annoying girl next to me was singing along with it and it was incredibly awkward when I said "I'm sorry but I can hear you".

BUT STILL, for the most part I don't think this is the end of the world!

qolbinau-They ruin concerts-by screaming, talking to the stage and shouting insane things at Adam, Anthony, Idina. They suck time at meet and greets and act overly familiar with the actors. They are rude to other theatre goers and audience members by singing along, talking, texting and photographing. They hog rush seats and become entitled douches (like when they shifted to N2N). They act self important when most of them are terribly sad creatures.

Brave Sir Robin2, unless she's switching roles, Colella has previously been involved in the development of the show in the part that's now going to be played by LaChanze.
