Am I missing something? I see on Amazon the Bombshell CD for sale has only the K McP's version of Don't forget me. There is also a Bombshell 2 version being released at Target with some interviews and a few bonus tracks but I am still not seeing the MH version. But I thought I read somewhere there were both versions on the CD..but I only see one. Hmmmmm..
Both versions aren't on the CD. However, apparently it will be released as a single on iTunes.
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
Finally, Megan Hilty's far superior version of "Don't Forget Me" (IMO) is available on iTunes. I just bought mine and I'm really happy....but amazed that it took so long!
I love both versions.. play them back to back and see how talented both these women are..I do think since it has more of a POP sound it works better with Katherines voice..Meg tends to be acting the song...which I know is necessary but I like Katherines version better-softer and more quiet.....maybe because i heard her sing it first and I loved the finale of last years show....but I love Megs also..just very different take on the same song..both work for me
I still think Megs best song is They Just Keep Moving the Line..I think this is the best song of the entire series Meg slams this ..it is perfect for her voice.. I listen to They Just Keep Movin the Line about 20x a week LOL
The songs first sung by each lady is often written for that actress is it not? For example, McPhee sounds better on "20th Century Fox Mambo" than Hilty, while Hilty is far superior on "National Pastime"
I disagree, the Mambo is McPhee's best song (along with her part of "Let Me Be Your Star") but Hilty's rendition is just as good, if not better, IMO.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
So glad to be able to purchase this version! McPhee's vocal rendition is fine, but Hilty's strikes me as more the way Marilyn would want to be remembered.
I feel like Karen isn't even trying to channel Mariyln, Ivy becomes her. There's also the fact that Karen is entirely too skinny to believably portray Marilyn, if it weren't for the blonde wig I couldn't tell it was supposed to be Marilyn.
The 3 best songs from Smash, IMHO, are 1. They just keep moving the line 2. Hang the moon and now Ivy's version of DOn't forget me. But I cant get They just keep moving the line out of my head quite honestly
