No. Richard Zoglin is Time's theatre critic; he writes the list.
"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe."
-John Guare, Landscape of the Body
What a bizarre list- and pretty skewed to the last few months. And Louis CK? What? New York Magazine's list is as follows (it cheats and lumps some productions together in groups). It's far more diverse.
1. Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? 2. Tribes 3. Sorry 4. Death of a Salesman 5. Cock 6. "The black box conjurations" (We are proud to present... , Blood Play, Samuel and Alasdair: a Personal History of the Robot War) 7. Detroit 8. Uncle Vanya (Annie Baker) 9. "The unmusicals" (Peter and the Starcatcher, Two Guvnors, Old Man and the Moon, Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812) 10. Clybourne Park NY Mag
"...everyone finally shut up, and the audience could enjoy the beginning of the Anatevka Pogram in peace."
Each list this year includes a big trolling choice. In a year with The Three Stooges, Piranha 3DD, and That's My Boy, the film critic in charge of the Worst Films list chose Cloud Atlas as the absolute worst of the year. The Fiction critic included J.K. Rowling's first adult novel even though the actual review in Time was cold. The song list included Pussy Riot shouting about Putin and Mary even after the quality of their music was written off in favor of the political message.
I could go on. They're aiming for clicks and the one wtf? choice on each list will do them nicely.
