It's amazing how every piece of information revealed about this production since its initial announcement has made me less and less excited. Especially since it should be the opposite.
Is this being set back in the early 90s (so they can keep the rave scene--my least fave part of the show--or something)? Because that hipster with the headphones, skateboard and pork pie hat is really off putting...
I like it. It is the same as what is on the cards. I hope they actually use it at the theater instead of the on that is up now. It is ok but at least this has some color. jmo
Claire is gone, which REALLY bothers me. So does some of the other stuff I've heard about...but am willing to give it a chance.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
That video from Broadway on Broadway was very underwhelming too. The notes were sometimes on, but the feeling from the song was completely gone. I don't know, I'm going to see it anyway and I'm just hoping that they'll be able to impress me.
"I'm really glad they are making these changes. The show is a mess,so hopefully they get this one right! It has so much potential..."
While I find the musical oddly appealing, sometimes despite myself, I definitely agree it's a mess. And I guess I should wait to find out what's been done--but the character of Claire was someone who, in the production I saw, *did* work, as did the song Warning. I think it's natural for fans to react negatively when they find out elements that seemed to work are some of the major ones to be cut.

It was just a performance of the song. It is not like they have rehearsed the show and it is up and running. I was there when they sang it. It was ok but I am sure it will be better.
I think the mother/son relationship was actually really beautiful in the show, and the song was both gorgeous, but contextual really powerful. I'm sad to see that gone from the show.
I think they just messed with the show too much. It seems like they're trying to make it too commercial. Haven't they learned? If they want it to be the next RENT, then don't make it commercial. Kids aren't idiots. We can smell when someone's trying too hard. I'm looking at you Wonderland with your "Iphone" jokes. Oof.
