I really want to see Into The Woods this summer but I've never been to the Delacorte. What I'm wondering is how early one should be in line for tickets. Thanks.

ATTENTION FANS: I will be played by James Barbour in the upcoming musical, "BroadwayWorld: The Musical."
For HAIR at The Delacorte early in the run, we arrived with the dogs and blankets around 4 p.m. and joined the line already established along Central Park West. They moved us into the park at 6 a.m. in a somewhat orderly fashion to line up outside the theater. I don't believe they handed tickets out to Noon -- but those who showed up much later than 6 were out of luck.
The stand-by line, especially early in the run, is your friend. Head straight to the park after work and sit and wait. Go to the stand-by line on a day that was rainy in the morning, but clears up mid-afternoon. Go to the standby line when it might rain. Go on a weekday.
In general, whatever you do, don't wait until the end of the run. If you can, see it within the first week. If you wait in line in the morning, get there no later than 7. But don't wait. Go see it as soon as you can. I was lucky enough to see Twelfth Night several times a few years back, mostly via stand-by, and that line got pretty insane by summer's end.
It's honestly not bad. Pack some food, some games, a book, a pillow, bring a friend or two, enjoy the runners and the puppies walking, and your fellow line-mates, order delivery to the line, and make a lovely day of it. There are worse things than spending a summer morning in Central Park with fellow theatregoers.

I'm thinking about legally changing my name to Lizzie Curry...
Going on a rainy day is actually good advice. The show will only cancel if there is lighting in the vicinity or the rain is simply too torrential. They can and will perform in rain- and much of the audience won't be there.
"...everyone finally shut up, and the audience could enjoy the beginning of the Anatevka Pogram in peace."
I'll be doing the stand-by line, most likely. It's what got me in to see TWELFTH NIGHT. I really don't feel like camping out in the park...but of course, I'm dying to see this production. We shall see...
Dumb question, and I'm sure the answer is only a search away, but is lining up the ONLY option for tickets? And if there are other options, how easy is it to get tickets?
I believe someone on another thread suggested doing standby on a weekend, on the off-chance that those who would be using sponsor seats are away for the weekend.
When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain.

Try to go during this first week of the run, if possible. A lot of times people don't seem to realize a show has started until it's been up for a week or so. This is what I did for some of the more difficult recent shows (MOTHER COURAGE, 12TH NIGHT, MERCHANT) and I got in without much trouble.
The standby line is also an excellent option.
"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe."
