Is anyone going to the show on Thursday? Whoopi is going to be playing different parts through the performance - I'd really like to know what she ends up playing! Updated On: 1/13/10 at 11:35 AM
The View is going to do a behind the scenes thing on it. I thought they were doing it this morning. Unless I missed it, I think they are doing it tomorrow moring. They are following her rehearsals.
It would be interesting to see her play Shenzi again, though that probably is not going to happen. I wouldn't be surprised if they let her be a hyena for one of her roles though.
She probably will do one of Shenzi's scenes, although I'd imagine at her age having to be hunched over cant be good for her.
I guess that Rafiki is a given, but probably in a short scene where she doesn't have to sing or speak one of the other languages. Like right after "Endless Night"

I can't imagine she will be in the show too much. I'm guess she'll have maybe four appearances at the most. Probably a background animal in the opening scene; one of the short Rafiki speaking scenes; perhaps a member of the African tribe during "They Live in You"; and something in the end.
An above poster is very correct -- it will be VERY distracting. I didn't know Disney got to the point where THE LION KING needs a marketing scheme to start selling tickets.
And the Playbill article is incorrect - this is not her return to the "legit stage" and she did a stint in XANADU last year...
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Capn, I think the Playbill article said she would appear five times.

Not that I don't love Whoopi Goldberg or anything, but WHY?

Oh lighten up for gods sake. It is a cool thing. Some of you don't realize sometimes how silly your "indignant stands" come off. Geeze Louise. CHILL.
