This is sublime casting. I'm glad the Benanti rumor didn't pan out. This seems much more interesting. Will be interesting to see Foster is a role that isn't heavy on the dancing (well, I guess Little Women counts but that was a stinker of a show).
Hope the Esparza and Peters rumors are true.
Wonder if that trio could spark interest in a full fledged revival.
I'm in the minority that doesn't think this show has many flaws. I find it pretty ingenious and ahead of its time. Maybe its time has come.

Posted: 10/15/09 at 2:25pmThis being a concert I wouldn't say she's reviving a role in the traditional sense. But she did Me and My Girl is stock a few years ago, Peppermint Patty in a Snoopy! concert, did the Chess concert, and was one of the Fanny Brice's in the Actor's Fund Funny Girl.

rOcKs, I think people were saying Bernadette Peters is going to play Cora Hoover Hooper, not Fay Apple.
Sutton's not who I would've thought of, but she's definitely got some great comic chops.
When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain.

Peters was Apple in the last concert. Apparently she forgot many of her lyrics and lines and they had to go back and re-record for the CD.
I like the prospect of seeing Lansbury, Cook, and Peters in Sondheim shows in the same weekend.

This is good news! Can't wait to see the concert. The only production I have seen was the one by York Theater Company back in 1994. Anyone else remember that production?

Posted: 10/15/09 at 3:10pmI'm glad I saw LuPone, Ceveris and McDonald in Anyone Can Whistle at Ravinia, all of whom were brilliant in their roles (especially Patti). Now I don't feel like I'm necessarily missing anything at yet another Encores I can't attend.
