Do you all think the big announcement about Phantom: Love Never Dies that will take place in October is that the first Phantom, Phantom of the Opera, will close both in London and on Broadway to make room for the sequel. Here's what the letter said: "Ladies and Gentlemen, At 11 o'clock on the eighth day of October 2009, I will be making an announcement of global importance. Should my commands be ignored, a disaster beyond your imagination will occur. Amor Numquam Moritur. Your Obedient Servant, The Phantom"

It wouldn't make any sense to close either production. They're still making lots of money. Money that they're going to need when Love Never Dies fails miserably.

I doubt it.

The sequel will likely spawn new interest in the original Phantom, and I would predict their will be joint ticket offers in the future (in New York, I guess this would require them putting it in a Shubert theatre). Plus, if Phantom is still making plenty of money, there is no need to close it, since it would be awkward to reopen the production if Love Never Dies is a flop (which isn't the craziest notion ever).

If I were a betting man, I would say that they will be announcing an opening date for Broadway for this spring, seeing the apparent demise of Spiderman as an opportunity to be the biggest buzzed show of the spring.

No, why would they do that? It is a Broadway icon and still immensely popular with tourists. The special announcement is probably something to do with more official information about the actual sequel (like exactly what date it will open).

In the Phantom 9000th performance video, ALW says it will open in the West End in March and on Broadway in November.

The big announcement is the production is canceled because Andrew Lloyd Webber's new cat ate the only manuscript.

I thught it be like another "Beauty & the Beast" "Little Mermaid" thing where the producers thought that the audiances would be divided over two similar shows.

Well, considering Love Never Dies is the sequel, it might make sense for them to run side by side.

There were also other issues going on with Disney during the Little Mermaid/Beauty & the Beast situation.

As much as I wonder what the announcment could be I highly doubt its the closing of Phantom.

Phantom (Since long having recoupped; everything now is just gross) is a cash cow and with the new intrest from LND it will just be making more money.

I can see people going to a saturday matinee of Phantom and a evening performance of LND.
And it would be smart of producers to offer packages like that.

I think more than anything its just announcing the opening date or when tickets go one sale. The only thing that sparks my curiosity is why so late at night to deliever the message?

I'm assuming that the announcement will be an official press release for the show, and we'll have a full cast announcement.

Oh, it's probably a VIP package for tickets to both shows with a light up rose and a four page souvenir pamphlet for only $450.

My hope is that the announcement will be something like:

"LOL! PSYCHE! A Phantom of the Opera sequel? YEAH RIGHT!

- Andrew Lloyd Webber"

^^ Actually, I remember when Sarah Brightman was on the Graham Norton show, he asked her why she hooked up with ALW seeing as he wasn't the best looking kid in the playground, and she replied "Because he had the biggest willy" .. so there.

It takes a big willy to create a Phantom sequel.

And Allison Janney as Christine might be exactly what it takes to get me to see this show
