Finally! The last role (and the most difficult to cast) has been confirmed and finalized: Isabel Santiago will be playing Daniela in the US Nat'l Tour of IN THE HEIGHTS which debuts October 26, 2009 in Tampa, Florida.
The US Tour's full cast announcement is expected shortly.
It looks like her head was photo-shopped on that body in her headshot. Congrats just the same to Isabel!
"The sexual energy between the mother and son really concerns me!"-random woman behind me at Next to Normal
"I want to meet him after and bang him!"-random woman who exposed her breasts at Rock of Ages, referring to James Carpinello
The tour is opening in a matter of weeks. It's about damn time they announce the cast. Congrats to her. She definitely looks like a Daniela.

Shaun Taylor-Corbett will be playing Sonny. I remember reading on here that Natalie Toro was cast (I assumed as Daniela but am obviously incorrect).

I chose, and my world was shaken- So what? The choice may have been mistaken,
The choosing was not...

Isn't she a bit young for Abuela? (Although that horrible picture might suggest otherwise and I can see your point.)

Camila would be the only reasonable option left...

The role requires you to nail every single one-liner Daniela has PLUS be able to pull-off that stereotypical latina while adding some human warmth and sincerity to her tough sassy exterior. Its a small role but an enormous audience favorite, which the producers are quite keen on. The other roles in the show are fully rounded, which were easier to cast in many ways. Daniela requires quite a bit, even if its a small role. I also sense that though Isabel Santiago has been officially cast, I wouldn't doubt the producers have a couple of potential Daniela's waiting in the wings in the event some changes need to be made.
I still haven't seen the show, but Toro is either playing Abuela or Mother. I don't know how big / if it even exists the role of Mother is, but I believe that's what she said she was close to announcing at one of her concerts.
There is no character called Mother. There is Camilla who is Nina's mother.
I would also assume Daniella has to be a strong vocalist. I always got frustrated in Carnival del Barrio and wish they would crank Andrea's mic a little more. Her vocals are amazing and get kind of drowned out.
Pretty pretty please don't you ever ever feel like you're less than f**ckin' perfect!

Woops! I meant to say that Santiago looks too old to be Carla (in response to Broadwayhoofer). I really hope that Kyle as Usnavi is true. I just googled that guy and I could tell right away that he was perfect for the part.
