ONE MAN... was one of the funniest evenings I ever had at the theatre. I laughed more during that show than almost any other broadway show in memory. Including musical comedies. I credit about 97% of that laughter with what James Corden did onstage. The play itself was what it was.
I never thought he'd sell many tickets in FORUM as a name, but he'd make it a brilliant production.
^^^ I agree. I loved One Man. I kept bringing friends to see it and ended up going three times. Every performance was different, thanks to Corden. I really would kill to see Corden in Forum, but I'm not getting my hopes up!
I LOVE him. Check out "Gavin & Stacy" on Netflix. But this saddens me as I wish I could see his Forum. But I'm happy for him. I'll actually watch The Late Late Show for the first time ever.
Wow he seems a lot more popular in the states than he is in the UK where people pretty much love or hate him. I wonder if it's because you guys just know him for a few acting roles whereas we've had him as a personality/celebrity too
Princeton Returns - I think it's because the ONE thing he's headlined here (One Man) was super succesful, and Most Americans I know are kind of anglophiles anyway.
I would state that the only thing I know Corden from apart from his stage work is his guest arc on Doctor Who.
I think Jim Parsons and JTF would both make great Hysteriums (Hysteria?), but I do not see either as Pseudolous. I also really think Gad is completely wrong for Pseudolous. Yes, he's goofy, but his humor/acting style is totally different from the tone of Pseudolous. I've also always thought of Pseudolous as older than Gad.
Jason Alexander would be great - and has sort of already played the role on Broadway - and won a Tony Award in the process. He's also the TV presence/name the producers may be going for. So, from the world of TV/Film and people not committed to a project (like Gad/Parsons): Jason Segel from How I Met Your Mother and Muppet Movie - although I see him as goofy and not manipulative. If Daniel Radcliffe can play Finch, he can play Pseudolus, but he's real young. Even though Zach Levi couldn't sell First Date - he's a younger TV face. A wild card choice could be Matt Smith - who got pretty good reviews for American Psycho and was in a little british television show.
I would absolutely pay to see Jesse Tyler Ferguson or Jim Parsons (playing against type!) in this role. Josh Gad would cause me to stay away until he left.
Bernadette is about as wrong as can be for Domina. However, I think Emily Skinner would be sensational in that role.
adamgreer-I'm with you on Gad. I really think people are underestimating Ferguson and Parsons-I think it would be neat to see them play against type and be Pseudolus.
I think Ferguson would be a great Pseudolus. The role requires a certain vaudevillian/midcentury comedic-showman style that I just don't think Parsons has.
"...everyone finally shut up, and the audience could enjoy the beginning of the Anatevka Pogram in peace."
They would both be interesting as Psuedolus. I'd love to see either of them play Hysterium as well. Maybe they could switch between the 2 roles every other performance, then we'd get to see them play both! haha (obviously, i'm not really recommending that, just think it would be neat to see both of them play both roles.)
