Maybe Hope & Dreyfuss will be doing the US tour??

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

I hear Laura and Ben are the standbys again. Don't know about the tour.

Why issue an announcement on March 18 saying Ben and Laura are the new Guy and Girl as of March 26 if you know you are bringing in others to take those roles 3 weeks later? It just makes no sense. Feel bad for Ben and Laura though hopefully they were given the big picture from the start.

Something about all these seems kind of weird. Like there hasn't been a big announcement about Arthur being in the show now nor has there been any promotion of it. Also it seems like a waste to spend all that money changing the front of house for Ben and Laura to then redo it weeks later.

Did they change front of house? I thought the pics out front were from the London cast with lots of info on international editions.

Recordings of some of the songs he sings in Once have made their way to Tumblr. They're pretty decent. He doesn't have the Glen-like grittiness that Kazee tried to emulate (and what may have ultimately given him so much vocal trouble), but they're fine for what they are. Well done, Rory!

15minutecall,

They did change the pictures of the cast that were outside the theatre. However, it was with similar images that had been there before, only this time it said in small writing on each picture "Original London Cast." There wasn't a lot of info on international editions of the show at all. This is because there are only two productions of the show right now, one in London and one on Broadway.

The front of house pic is not Ben and Laura- it's Declan and Zrinka from London. They probably didn't want to get new shots with Ben and Laura if they knew it was temporary.

Wow. He sounds pretty amazing. Definitely back on my list of things to see. I might wait a bit so they update the Playbill. I don't want one with just a slip inside.

I've known about this for quite some time, but have been unable to share it. They were having a very difficult time getting the AEA approval to bring him over, so were unable to announce. But I think they were rehearsing him all along.

Did they change front of house?

The pre-printed cast board outside still says Ben and Laura, but that was as of yesterday (I didn't look today).

As for issuing a press release for cast members who don't stick around, Book of Mormon could tell you all about that.

I'm not one to typically comment on fashion, but why the hell did they change the shirt "Guy" wears to that ugly looking plaid one? I know they did it in London as well, but still questioning why they did it in the first place.

I'll wait until the playbill is officially changed. They may simply have some kind of rotation with Hope & Darvill/Dreyfuss & Christie until something with AEA is completely sorted out.

Im assuming because they dont have Kazee's body. He had the guns and pecs for the tight white shirt. It just wouldnt look right on a skinny hipster looking guy. Steve is very masculine and athletic. His costume choices might not work on a hipster.

I feel bad for Davis and Dreyfuss. They get announced as being promoted from the standbys to the leads and then three weeks later they get demoted again? And why do we need British actors in these roles???

Because the shows advance ticket sales are falling...and the show is now essentially being sold to hipsters and foreign tourists who know of and watch Dr. Who. Its an attempt at seeing how they will be able to stunt cast in the future, considering the roles of Guy and Girl are less showy than those of Chicago, which I have a feeling Once will become within the next year or so with a rotating celebrity/musician in the role of guy or girl.

I think it is interesting that in the new announcement article they emphasize that Ben and Laura were planned as temporary all along, but in the previous article mentioning they were taking the roles, it was never mentioned as being a temporary thing.

In "Once," the music is the starring role, far more than Guy, Girl or any other- the actual act of making music, live and unplugged, is celebrated far more than any of the characters, most of which are relatively lightweight acting-wise.

This could be the anti-Chicago, stunt casting wise. More like the latter days of "American Idiot," in which famous alternative musicians who happened to be actors at least tangentially rotated into the cast for limited runs. I actually wouldn't mind seeing that in Once- it certainly pushes the music content of "play with music" far harder than anyone else ever has. It could be interesting.

And though they've probably aged out of the roles and I don't know if he could have done the required accent, I would have LOVED to see a limited run with longtime collaborators Ben Folds and Regina Spektor.

he couldnt hit the high notes, in fact some of the other ensemble helped him along and i had not seen that before

What song? In "When Your Mind's Made Up", there's this part where, when Glen Hansard sang it, he would climb to high notes that even Steve let others sing and he stayed with lower notes.

W...i saw Steve 3X and i dont recall him needing help on "Mind" but i will take your word for it at least at the show you saw. Besides MIND, Arthur couldnt hit the notes in LEAVE, either

And Betty youre right, he is too skinny for the white shirt and vest. he looks very williamsburg hipster to me.

Darq, the music might indeed be the star, but if you cant hit the notes well the music suffers.

I've never seen Once; I'm just basing it off of the cast recording and the highlight reel that when the song goes "When your mind, your miiiiind, Whoa..", Steve sings the first note of "Whoa" the same way Glen did, and then takes a step down. Glen would also keep going higher and higher. Steve may have done it differently for each performance depending on how confident he was in his voice at the time.
