More of a Holiday show so perhaps Post-Thanksgiving there might be a spike sales? or maybe most people might feel the same way one of us did about the show. see link to video review below.
The "theatre" word of mouth is good. It happens to be a very good production of a mediocre show. The suburbanite word of mouth is okay. What were the suburbanites saying around me... "It's okay. but I'd rather see Jersey Boys.... Again."
For its its great direction, acting and production values... Drood is not an audience pleaser because no one gives a fig who killed Drood; you can't really care for the characters because they are playing characters. Bazzard is the only one you care about because you do want him to have a bigger part because he is so charming and good in the show... hence him being an audience favorite to do "more " in the show.
But Drood is an okay musical. It's very clever but its got no heart. It's cool to see the musical hall format but format without soul is still format.
Yes its a hard sell. An Engliish musical hall... an unsolved mystery. Who cares. Wait...Light Bulb....... change the name of the show to Unsolved Mysteries --the musical and add a Four Seasons Number.. that could work.
For anyone who cares, this is a spectacular revival of one of the most enjoyable musicals I've seen in a lifetime of theater going.
A half-dozen stellar performances, a great ensemble, terrific staging and choreography, phenomenal costumes (!), and a score you'll be whistling for days.
PalJoey. I agree with your comment on Drood. I sure don't want it to be a Limited show run. Besides if the production doesn't go beyond February it may not be eligible for Tony nominations... Boo Sad
