AGES OF MAN 50th Anniversary To Be Honored At PWT

Performance Workshop Theatre is marking the 50th anniversary of Sir John Gielgud's triumphant debut of Ages of Man in America by presenting his intimate selection of Shakespeare's monologues and sonnets during their award-winning 2008-09 season. The one-man show features celebrated actor Marc Horwitz interpreting 24 of Shakespeare's characters in a brilliant tour de force that opens March 13 and runs through April 11.
National Christian Choir Performs At McDaniel 3/8

The 200-voice National Christian Choir (NCC) will perform at 6 p.m. March 8 in Baker Memorial Chapel on campus. Admission is free, but tickets must be reserved in advance. Directed by C. Harry Causey of Sykesville, Md., the choir comprised of members of more than 100 churches will perform Beautiful Savior,The Lord is My Strength and My Song, and We Declare Your Majesty.

New Baltimore theater group '9 Imaginary Cows Theater Collective' comes to Theater Project with There Have Been Other Men in my Wife's Bed. The show will run February 26-March 7, Thursday-Saturday @ 8pm, Sunday @ 7pm Baltimore's newest theater company debuts with a show that can't stop lying: wives lie to husbands, husbands lie to the ghosts of old girlfriends, actors lie to the audience and playwrights lie to everyone.

In the Baltimore premiere of Killer Joe by Tracy Letts, the Smith family, mired by economic turmoil, is forced to squeeze into a small trailer on the outskirts of Dallas, TX. Chris Smith, the family's outcast son, needs a quick solution to his mounting debt and ruthless collectors. Chris stumbles upon Killer Joe Cooper, a detective who moonlights as a can't-miss hit-man, and he cooks up a sinister scheme targeting his mother's large life insurance policy. Tracy Letts, who was recently awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Drama Desk Award and Tony Award for Best Play for his play, August: Osage County, is the son to Best-Selling author Billie Letts and actor Dennis Letts.

Four hunters, lost in the Canadian woods, begin losing their minds and battling a gigantic, unseen creature in this adaptation of Algernon Blackwood's classic tale of supernatural horror. One of Blackwood's best stories is the magnificent THE WENDIGO, written in 1908. On the surface, this is a classic story of man versus nature but on a spiritual level the story forces us to question our position and purpose in the universe, to wonder if perhaps there are some places, as the narrator says, that 'no human foot was meant to trod.'

It's a shame Romance, Romance ends its run at the Vagabond Players on Feb. 8, just six days prior to Valentine's Day. So why not celebrate a little earlier with this quaint little musical by Barry Harman (book and lyrics) and Keith Hermann (music). Director Bill Kamberger continues his magic with not much material with enjoyable choreography by James Biernatowski and musical direction by Michael Tan (soon to tackle Sweeney Todd at the Spotlighters.)

Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for professional, not-for-profit theatre announces its 2009 conference: Roots. Renaissance. Revolution. From June 4-6, 2009, the theatre community will come together in Baltimore to investigate how generational perspectives affect the entire field, including the choice of plays produced, the atmosphere created in workplaces, the appeal of various leadership styles, and the processes used to identify, attract and retain audiences.

The New York Times is reporting that ticket holders for the now-bankrupt Baltimore Opera Company won't be without holiday entertainment this season. Several area arts companies have announced they shall honor any nonrefundable tickets for productions of 'Porgy and Bess' and 'The Barber of Seville' planned by the Baltimore Opera Company, which the Times details filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection this month.
