by BWW News Desk - October 01, 2014
The Way Off Broadway Dinner Theatre, the area's only year-round producing theatre, is not just known for its Mainstage productions. Shortly after the theatre opened, it launched its own Children's Theatre. The Children's Theatre at Way Off Broadway has been a part of the premiere entertainment venue since 1996 when it opened with an original production of Sleep Beauty. That was the beginning of what would become one of the most popular family entertainment spots in Frederick. To this day, the Children's Theatre at Way Off Broadway is the area's only children's lunch theater, offering a family-friendly meal before each show, and giving audience members, young and old alike, a chance to meet the character before they see them singing and dancing on stage.

BWW Reviews: ALADDIN & THE MAGIC LAMP at the Pumpkin Theatre
by Tina Saratsiotis - September 26, 2014
The Pumpkin Theatre's ALADDIN & THE MAGIC LAMP is a colorful and charming version of the famous fairy-tale. My delightful five-year-old guest became so engrossed in the story she forgot to sit down and looked like she might fly onto the stage to rescue the hero and his princess from the evil clutches of the dastardly villains. It's always heartening to see the digital generation put aside their gadgets and fall under the spell of classic theater.

BWW Review: Fresh Production, Unfresh Play: AMADEUS at Center Stage
by Jack L. B. Gohn - September 22, 2014
There is nothing wrong with the handsome production director Kwame Kwei-Armah has given us, from the amazing two-storey set by Timothy R. Mackabee to the decolletage-heavy, periwig-topped, bustle-bottomed, gilded costumes of David Burdick, to the sturdy performances of Bruce Randolph Nelson and Stanton Nash as Salieri and Mozart, to literally everything else associated with this resurrection of the show. I am convinced that the problem lies with the script itself.

Wow to the theater, a three-tier structure that echoes the layout of Shakespeare's own Globe. Wow to the play, one of Shakespeare's funniest. Wow to the acting, the direction, the staging, the lighting. The audience is assured of over two hours of being in stitches.

BWW Reviews: ONCE at the Hippodrome
by Tina Saratsiotis - September 19, 2014
For Baltimore theater goers, a show at the Hippodrome is a must-see experience. The ornate charm of this historical gem sets an anticipatory air of excitement for the audience. It's proven to be versatile in its staging of both new and old Broadway whether elaborate or intimate. The most recent production, ONCE, is a successful example of the Hippodrome's ability to stretch and contract its personality to fit the style of a small indie movie as well as any elaborate Disney extravaganza.

Vagabond Players' production of ART in historic Fells Point is surprisingly funny despite dense dialogue and sparse set- or perhaps because of them.
