Hi there, my name is Grace Ward, and I’m so excited to be joining BroadwayWorld as a Student Blogger. I am originally from Massachusetts and a current senior at Hofstra University, where I study Public Relations & Strategic Communication, with minors in drama and musical theatre. I’ve had a blast studying what I love and finding different avenues to continue supporting the performing arts within my future profession. I recently finished an internship at Boneau/Bryan-Brown, a leading theatrical press agency, where I worked on PR efforts for shows like Mamma Mia!, Boop! The Betty Boop Musical, The Outsiders on Broadway and many others. I’ve been involved in Hofstra’s theatre scene as a performer, assistant stage manager, light board operator, PR crew member, and just this semester I was inducted into the Mu Psi chapter of Alpha Psi Omega National Theatre Honor Society. I can’t wait to share some of my favorite theatre experiences with BroadwayWorld readers, and shed light on the business of Broadway for those seeking opportunities to work in the theatre industry.
Auditions are a core part of a theatre student’s growth and development and serve as a fantastic practice for mastering presentation under stress. I asked 15 Seniors in Hofstra’s BFA Theatre Performance program for their advice on managing nerves and putting your best foot forward when auditioning, specifically for college or university productions.
It’s getting to that scary point in the semester, the mid-way point where each class seems to level up in its demandingness. I know I’m far from the only student experiencing burn-out, and senior year can be particularly anxiety-inducing.
