Romeo and Katrina is a musical in development created by Christine Hoang & Tyler Mabry, directed by Marcus McQuirter.About this eventOn September 17, 2022 at 7pm, join the AARC and Color Arc Productions for a live, in-person Work-In-Progress Concert Reading of Romeo and Katrina, a musical set four years after Hurricane Katrina devastated the city of New Orleans. This musical crosses the Mississippi River to bridge two lovers from Westbank and Eastbank New Orleans: Romeo Tran -- a Vietnamese American mechanic, college dropout, and son of refugees; and Katrina "Trina" Batiste -- a dental student, debutante, and daughter of bougie Black socialites. Romeo and Trina's relationship grows amidst the backdrop of New Orleans post-Katrina recovery and the Saints storied ascent to Superbowl glory. With a musical score inspired by New Orleans jazz and pop music from the early 2000s, Romeo and Katrina digs deep into love & loyalty, family & friendship, community & crisis, and recovery & renewal.Romeo and Katrina is a musical in development created by Christine Hoang & Tyler Mabry, directed by Marcus McQuirter, with artistic consultation from Brian Yorkey & Kat Ramsburg.
